Football player & Friend
Nov 28, 2021 21:50:06   #
Jules Karney Loc: Las Vegas, Nevada

These photos were taken as a favor of a freshman football player and his friend. Just thought I would share.
Nikon D4
70-200 2.8
85mm 1.8
50mm 1.8
24-70 2.8

This area is called Calico Basin, about 2 miles from Red Rock. It was packed with people, pics. taken on a Saturday over the holiday weekend. Probably a bad idea, but we pulled it off.
I used fill flash on most of these shots. I am looking for comments, suggestions, etc.
Thank you.

Jules,
Nice fill flash to compensate for the back lighting from that enormous natural light source, which by the way is an excellent hair light. Fill flash is a necessity in sometimes harsh lighting conditions trying to balance the ambient with the artificial. I'm no expert, my daughter is since this is her area being a wedding/portrait photographer. I think you did a great job, nice change from the action shots but you'll find that your portrait photography slips into your action photography making that sports photo that much more of an impact.

Excellent work Jules,
Rick

Fabulous as always Jules! You're the man!
Great to see you migrating into "couples" portraiture... A mainstay for commercial shooters.
Enchanting diversity latent within this delightful series...
I'm absolutely certain your clients were thrilled to have you as their photographer.

In this genre there is a natural progression that goes on through the couples journey together...
Examples are:
The engagement session
A "Save the Date" session
And the premiere Wedding Event!
Next are the Maternity sessions
Soon after the "New Born" session
Followed by an endless stream of recordation photojournalism of their children's pivotal rites of passage... i.e. graduations etc.

Build your client base and enjoy the constant revenue stream...

I love working in this genre...
Below is an Engagement Session which mirrors what you've accomplished here...
Please "borrow" my game card and consider integrating these "concepts" in your repertoire.
Hope this helps or is at least food for thought.

Again thank you for sharing Jules... So wonderful following your journey...
Cheers!

Typically on "Engagement" sessions you'll want to show the young lady's left hand with ring...

Thomas your comments are once again priceless and much appreciated. I don't ever shoot weddings, couples, kind of a first time here.

Jules loving those wedding couples shots!
You're just a step or two away from a wonderful twist in your never ending photographic journey.

As an incentive please check out the $ amount(s) of the top wedding shooters in your market.
https://www.weddingwire.com/c/nv-nevada/reno-lake-tahoe/wedding-photographers/811-10-rca.html
You'll find this figure just below their descriptive paragraph...

Best Advice? Assist other seasoned wedding shooters in your market...
It's handsomely paid work and you'll learn the "ropes" quickly that way.
btw, assistants are only to be seen not heard... if you're hired to assist, never ask questions.
Your mission becomes to make the "contract" Wedding Photographer look amazing!

Please keep up the good work...
It's always nice to have your kit pay for itself...

Cheers!
