Elements / ACR Issue

Hi all,
I have chosen to use Adobe RGB as my color space throughout my process. Until recently I was using Photoshop Elements 14 (PSE 14) and the version of Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) that shipped with it (ACR 9.5). After processing RAW (Nikon NEF) images in ACR I would click "Open Image." The image then opened in PSE 14 and the color space was Adobe RGB since I had the Color Setting set to "Always Optimize for Print." This is exactly what I want. Last week I updated to PSE 2022 which shipped with ACR 13.3. Now, after processing the RAW image and clicking "Open," the image opens in PSE 2022 with a color space of sRGB, even though I have color set to "Always Optimize for Print." Having this clicked should make the default color space Adobe RGB. I've tried various color profiles in ACR 13.3, both Adobe and Camera Matching, but that hasn't worked. Can someone explain what is happening, and how I can get images from ACR to open in PSE 2022 with RGB color space? Also, if an image opens in sRGB and I change it manually to RGB, do I really increase the color space? Thanks.

If it's anything like Elements 14 and 19, they reside in two different places on my computer, do not talk to each other, and run completely independent of each other (two different installs).

I'd suggest to go to 2022 and adjust your default settings, yes, again.

(I use sRGB, mainly because it's the best for the web, my printers also handle sRGB. Unlike MasterCard, Adobe RGB is not accepted everywhere.)

Hi all, br I have chosen to use Adobe RGB as my co... (show quote)

The current best practice, recommended by On1, Adobe, Capture One and I think DXO is if you are shooting raw, to process in the biggest color space possible - typically ProPhoto, until you are ready for final printing - then you convert to sRGB unless your printer or lab says otherwise. Editing with a subset of available colors can get you into trouble if the colors you need are not in the palette, as will sending an Adobe RGB image to a printer or lab that is calibrated for sRGB.

That explains why some want to use one or the other.
What about his issue?

I assume you are aware that the particular setting in your camera that you are talking about has no impact on a RAW image. As for software, in preferences, although it could be located elsewhere, set any software you work in with the same color profile. I use LrC and all software is set to ProPhoto so as to avoid conflict. Any image I export can be set to any profile I desire, such as sRGB for printing and web.

Thanks via the lens. Yes, I know that how the camera is set has no effect on RAW files. My problem is with the jump from the ACR editor to Photoshop Elements.

Thanks Gene51. My printer and lab can handle RGB. So I’d like to use it throughout the flow.

I don't have the same software, but this discussion says you select the colorspace from the bottom of the ACR window. Search for 'color conversion' or scroll to this heading about 50% down the page / post.
