Spot Light, Speedlite, Ambient Light

Thats what it took, all three light sources to get this shot. The small spot light lit the vase and made the dark shadow. The speedlite flash, coming from the right front lit the other side of the vase and on the spot light while making sure it didn't blow out the highlights. A slow exposure added ambient light on additional areas of the spot light.

You're always thinking and giving us ideas that we can try out. Winter is coming. Might be a good time to play indoors. Really nice shot.

I was at Home Depot to buy a water filter, while passing through the lighting section I saw this sitting there out in the open, thought it looked cool. It could be used as I did here or as a directional lighting for some future still life. It can be moved in all directions not sure the kelvin but can usually adjust that in white balance. It makes a nice spread of light when further back from your subject. I also tried to see if the light is strong enough to add a defuser, as I did it made a very good soft spread of light. It will be used in further settings. Be on a LšŸ‘€k out.

Jim, I am just waiting for someone to ask what lighting you used!!! I have used a simple desk-lamp many times and they go great for still life photos as your shows.

Obviously, there was a second weak light at 180* from the first as you describe a speed-light, but the main light shows what can be done with simple systems. The speed-light could well have been a filtered to dull desk lamp.

Kudos Jim for showing what simplicity can do

Thanks for stopping by dpullum. Not sure if you were asking where I got the light but here is a link to it

After seeing the pictures from the site it gave me another idea for a shot. šŸ¤”

Nice still life for sure.

Down here in the desert we tend to play indoors in the summer
