Thought I would post my very first attempt at imaging.Orion nebula at 1600 ISO , 6 second exposure.Let me know what you think. Tim
What do I think? I think its really cool !
I think it is very good.
But I see lots of red pixels.
I have not done any stacking as of yet.Nor did I take any darks as this was truly my first attempt and did not want to make it more difficult for the first time. Will take more time with all that another time. Just had too much fun. Took 599 images with the first ones of M33 in Andromeda. They did not turn out as well, the image was not centered and was in dobsons hole at the time of trial.yet I acn still post.

I love astrophotography but know little about it. I would like to know what equipment you used. Awesome image! Robert

I'm with rodart, what are you shooting with? I went out about 4 AM this morning to try and capture some of the meteor shower, but wasn't able to catch any. A lot of light pollution around here.
Rodart,I used My new Canon T4i attached to a t-adapter which was attached to a Meade 6.3 focal reducer, which was attached to my Celestron Nexstar 8se cassegrain .The telescope is 8" in diameter with a Focal length of 2032mm ,f/8 .The Nexstar Mount is an alt/azimuth goto mount. People have trold ne you cannot do imaging with this mount and I guess I have proved them wrong.I do have a Celestron Cg5 german equatrial goto mount yet I opted to use my nexstar because of the ease of set up.Just level the tripod, align the scope with 1,2 or 3 stars and if everything is correct you are ready to look at anything your heart desires. Within the focal abilities of the scope of course. Now there is one thing using this setup,Don't ever try to image anything close to,what I and many others like to refer as Dobsons Hole,Anything that is directly above you. As your camera may,no will come in contact with the mount. So you have to pay extremely close attention. As far as viewing with this setup, in my opinion, You cannot beat it ,for the money. Hopes that helps a little.

I took 599 images last night. Pulled an all nighter and the majority of the time was spent on Orion Nebula. I did take a few of M33 in andromeda yet ,while piggybacking my camera,Canon T4I,at zenith,Dobsons Hole, did not stay there long.Only got a few images there. Will take more of that galaxy next time. Orion is my favorie and that is why I chose to stay on it all night.
Celestron 8se
Celestron 90mm mak
Celestron70mm 400mm focal length refractor
Meade 90mm f/8.8 refractor
Home made 6" f/4 newtonian telescope
JMI Motofocus for 8se
Meade 2" 6.3 focal reducer for 8se
Celestron bino viewer with multiple matched eypieces
Celestron CG5 german equatorial goto mount
Celestron Nexstar alt/az goto mount for numerous scopes yet came with 8se
Canon T4I with numerous telephoto and prime focus lenses.

Wow! Thank you for taking the time share that! I'm going to have to copy and paste this into word, enlarge the print, and double space it so I don't get an aneurysm trying to read it! Actually, I followed a previous post of yours and looked into it (AP) and understand the concept.....a little. You still have to be a good photographer and your work proves that you are! I can't wait to see more! Please keep posting!...Robert
Thanks Jerry. It wa s an unbeleivable night. I had never thought that I would be astro imaging, yet alone getting the results I did on my first try. I am sure it is not the greatest yet I am extremely plesed with the outcome of all the work I spent Saturday getting ready. I went to Menards and got 4-8' 2x2's and 4 8x10' tarps , a roll of 3/8" rope and 4-3' long pieces of rebar. Without getting into it too far,I set the 2x2's so that I could attach the taprs to them to block the lights from surrounding neighbors and to block the wind.It worked just as I hope it would. Wanted to setup and run the scope and camera from inside my shop 30' away yet the cables i used would not allow me to do so.Was told to use cat5 cable of which I have over 120' of.Maybe next time.So needless to say,got slightly chilly. Not too bad though. Left mt computer in the shop and focussed using screens live view on the camera.not an easy thing to do.

You are very welcome. LOL on the double space thing. I have been told I tend to talk too much. Guess it shows up here also in the written form. Tim

I'm guessing it takes a quick thinker talker to pull off complex imaging of this nature! I'm just going to have to get in one of those "zen" moments before I dive into that much tech. Again, really enjoyed looking at your work. I find it fascinating and you appear to be off to a fantastic start.
