After listening to the interview I sympathize a bit more with Kyle. He seems like a nice kid who was trying to do the right things. I think if he had not been armed he would not have been threatened and/or harmed by any of his attackers. The rifle was provocative, and a poor choice on his part to take to the scene. He should have stuck with a brush and bucket to clean up the graffiti.
I still need to be convinced that him getting off without ANY consequences was the right result. It sounds like he was in fear of his life, but I think part of the was because the threats against him were due to his carrying a rifle. Which comes back again to the US 2nd Amendment and all of the trouble it causes because of it being misinterpreted in today's context compared to when it was enacted.
