Is there any, "there there?"

I was on a hike where that was a challenging shooting environment. I shot a lot of mushrooms which are posted in another thread. But in this case, I took this shot but am not convinced there is any "there there" meaning a subject worth looking at. I also re-did the shot in black and white and am not fond of that shot.

Take a look and see what you think. At this point, I think it is slated for the big delete.

CC is welcome and appreciated.

Best regards

I see more detail in the black and white and the background is less distracting.
Keep the B & W.

Why are you so mean? Ok, I jest! 😀 I agree totally. But think maybe both are delete-worthy. Maybe wall art at motel 6 or something.

I agree with alliebess about the b&w. I really like the contrast and without the color it focuses attention on the front leaves. The "there" you are looking for is in the structure of the leaves; the veins and the areas missing the leaf material. I would not consider this photo for deletion.

Now I am the opposite: I like the color better than the black and white. If the foreground leaves were in some way more separated from the background in the black and white, I feel it would be come stronger. In this case I feel the slight color differentiation between the sharper foreground leaves and the more muted background leaves / color does the subject better. I also like the subject of some of fall's last leaves not in the finest shape. Nice difference between the early fall's perfect color/perfect shape leaves. Nice treatment of the subject.

I think they may not be delete worthy if they have some meaningful impact to the OP. Is National Geographic great? Probably not. But in my opinion, it is probably both different and better than Motel 6 wall art.

If your not happy with it, delete. I did some fall leaf shots. Ended up deleting them. Had one or two nice leaf patter shots but I wasn't with my work & might try again today.
Happy shooting, Tom

I think many photos look better when we decide to press the shutter; but, not so good on the large monitor when we have lots of time to review.
a bunch of colorful leaves on blueish water would look great

I take many leaf images. Sometimes because I see something compelling in the leaf itself, and sometimes because there is a photo technique that I am trying to achieve.

I like this image because you have the main subject (nice color) in sharp detail with a nice fade toward the background.

Not every image needs to be shared, printed, displayed. Sometimes it is just enough to see it on you monitor and say, "I enjoy seeing what I did with this image." Joy and satisfaction.

The b&w is my winner--nice gray tones.

I like the color and detail. Not just another pretty leaf. I would remove the large yellow shape in the top center background. It is distracting. Nice job. A keeper.

one more look. I would like to see a download of the color so I can look at it on my 24" monitor. I like it. The stem of the leaf draws my eye to the leaf. I also like the out of focus leaves in the back ground and think they add not subtract.
What was the f stop and lens focal length?

I promise you I have my share of shots that have only meaning to me. They will never win an award but they will keep a memory or feeling.
