What does that nonsense even mean!?

Aw, c'mon. Lighten up!

Paul is full of pithy metaphors - sometimes you have to think to understand them.

But since you asked, how good a picture is your camera going to get … sitting at home with its lens cap on?

I honestly think there are two different conversations going on here. I am now having a hard time wondering who the the person meant regarding the number of posts, you or the OP who said he was 80 and most likely does not need any great number of posts. Just making it to 80 would be a great satisfaction.

Unfortunately the thread seems to have gotten off track.

I’m not sure this post was ever on track.

Derailment is the square root of UHH to the power of 10 divided by the sum of participants.

Just unnecessary drivel to bump up his post count.

CHG_CANON is one of the best and knowledgable posters on this forum. Always helpful. You could only hope to be so good, but no, you have to diss someone you know nothing about.

CHG_CANON has helped me and I appreciate his contributions. If something is annoying, I ignore it.

There are been posts about "why" having to do with why/how/whatfor that we take pictures. If you don't do it and find it fun, get out of it and buy a new Apple 13. I have sold prints and etc over the years but have found that I just enjoy taking a good picture. I have never really lamented the price of a "new" lens or the occasional upgrade in the body albeit I am not a pixel chaser and still happy with my Nikon D810. These phones today take great pictures as I can remember when film and paper was what you had in the basement. ASA 3200 color film was a miracle for night and New Years Eve in New York. but if you used that pan ASA10 film you got a really grain-less picture that you could blow up across the darkroom from wall to wall if you also bought some roll enlargement paper. Yup still doing pictures at 80 and still find it fun.
There are been posts about "why" having ... (show quote)

Reverendray you are an example of what I hope to be like in 15 years when I turn 80. Photography to me will be a way of life when I retire soon (I hope). With COVID ongoing I have stalled my retirement in order to continue working in the healthcare system while I still have energy and strength to do it. But my relaxation away from the job is picking up the picture box and squeezing off a few frames and seeing the magic of what comes out the other end.

Be safe and enjoy the rest of your sunsets! They sure go fast. Jim

For me it means you cannot take good photos or even ANY photos if you don't take the camera off the shelf, take the lens cap off and actually take photographs. I thought it was pretty simple and not nonsense at all.

Yeah, I checked the bathroom scale today and I do need to lighten up a bit.
As for my cameras, several are sitting at home with body cap on, in my camera cabinet. I actually had 4 cameras in the car with me today, my trusty pocket camera, a Canon G1X mk III, my Nikon D850 with Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8, my Canon 5D mk IV with my utility lens mounted, an EF 28-300L, and my Canon 90D with a Sigma 150-600 Sport and matching Sigma 1.4X extender. And, I actually took photos with all 4 cameras. I took shots of 3 of our grand children with my pocket camera. We took them out for ice cream after picking them up at school. I got several shots of hawks and vultures with the 90D. I took a few photos of one of my orchids in bloom with the D850 and I took a few photos with the 5D mk IV, as much of a dinosaur as it is according to our resident Canon expert from the windy city, and it actually worked perfectly; imagine that.
Sure, lens caps came off and were put back on, it's kinda standard operating procedure. Except it's a minor pain in the posterior with the Sigma with the hood on. But then that's true with many lenses.
As for the one liners, some of them are good and make sense. Sometimes I don't get it because I failed to grasp the meaning. I'm not a member of Mensa and don't claim to be the sharpest tool in the tool shed. And, sometimes they simply don't make sense, or as I've commented, "swing, and a miss".
So, how many cameras did you leave at home today, on a shelf with lens caps on? And how many did you take into the wild?
