Ansel Adams, Moonrise Hernandez New Mexico.
Wonderful image. I passed an original of this frequently while I was in school. However, a guy by the name of Di Cicco determined that Beaumont Newhall was off on his calculation for the date by a day. It seems it was actually taken on 1 November 1941. Back when it was first announced (maybe late 80's) I don't remember the publication but it but it was a huge write up a la the trial in Alice's Restaurant, "with twenty seven eight-by-ten color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against it. Took pictures of the approach, the getaway, the northwest corner the southwest corner and that's not to mention the aerial photography." Way technical, and I guess it confirmed the official date/time. IMO I don't think anyone is going to make the effort to change the date on any further publication.
how does this fit into the nude forum?
How is Halloween like Christmas? They ain't, both are Pagan holidays of the Great God Pan. Women being 'sky clad' makes ME glad. How's bout you?
Ansel was a fellow Pagan, few know that about him, that is why the image was so important to ol' Adams.

C’mon, Tim… why would you not crop out the crap on the right? It just shows your lack of attention to details of the backgrounds.
Ansel Adams is the name, creativity was his game!
Yea, I noticed that spell check started to loose spelling of Ansel's name to 'Ansell', I guess it is some new person in the world, but I put the spelling of 'Ansel' into spell check so that should be corrected in future.
While comments that 'I can do better', well, perhaps, then again that old magic of seeing an image like this right out of the camera one can see that syncro sun light when done well can deliver such a natural looking result that one need only crop!
Then a studio set up with a model, Nicole Damon, that joins Halloween (Samhain) and Christmas (Winter sun passage) into one idea is hard to grasp unless you know your Pagan references.

Sorry, just saw this.
The date was NOT given by Beaumont Newhall, rather Newhall had an astro Physicist using the then state of the art computer and sightings for the then moon position to come up with the 'date'. For people like Adams and Newhall it was indeed made on Samhain.
Now this may seem trivial to some, yet it does reveal a lack of awareness to the issue at hand. You see Samhain is a night event, not a day event, so it is a transitional occurrence.
I know, the same can be said about the death of that guy Adolf Hitler. Hitler was true to his beliefs as a Pagan, he emolliated on the night of Beltane, this also explains why the SS continued fighting until the end of Beltane (five days past Hitler's passing). This of course drove Stalin nuts. It was their 'religious' belief system and it helps to understand all that the Nazis and Communist state were. And no, it does not make Nazis and Communists Pagans.

Oh the tale (or tail?) of the fish above! Timmers keep up the imagination and the work no matter how many people find fault. You are an original, and that is all that matters.

You're correct, my bad. Beaumont was the first to bring up the "when" question and went to "pros" for an answer. Still a great image (and from I remember from a Sexton lecture a real bear to print).

What, John didn't bitch about retouching the white 'W' on the building? LOL!!!
Oh the humanity! Ansel retouched his prints to alter them! What shocking news!!! No, Ansel NEVER retouched his prints, that is what the darkroom slaves were for! But if you were a big boy (me) he would have you hold up framed images while he and Imogene would argue about were and how to hang the damn framed print! (Imogene was really in charge at the Sun Set Center, not Ansel, he was just the president! LOL!!!). God how he loved her.

One does hope that you are joking.
Perhaps the greatest single image Ansel ever created and your 'teaching' composition?
Joking or not, why I think the clowns on here need so much help.
Next we will all hear how Adam's print The Face of Half Dome lacks shadow detail.

Shirley, I do jest. But, I Based my digital copy of Adams' Face of Half Dome here off the detail gleaned from looking at the original which I did see, once in my darkroom days.
