I have read quite a bit about the Nikon d7500 on-line & keep seeing it referred to as a “junior “ version of the d500, with not a lot of difference in specs, plus it has the built in flash that the d500 does not. D500 has 2card slots versus 1 on the d7500. Not sure if that makes much difference. But definitely a difference in price. My 7000 has 2 slots, but my 5000 series cameras only have one. I am not one that shoots 100’s of photos in a day so that has not been an issue. Thoughts & experiences with the d7500 fellow UHH’ers?

You've correctly picked up on the price difference for just a few differentiated features between the two cameras. If those differences are relevant, you know what you have to pay. If they're not relevant, you know how to save money with essentially the same camera.

Thanks for the reply. I kind of had the same thoughts; your reply reinforces my thoughts. Thanks, again.

I think you also need to think in terms of "nice feature I would not need or probably use" vs "this is something I really would like on my camera." I have found that the latter usually were not worth the extra money.

I just moved "up" from a D5500 by purchasing a used D7500. Very pleased with the camera. On any camera, I would consider an extra card slot to be a redundancy feature, not a capacity issue. Not being a Pro, I decided that I did not NEED the extra slot. I chose to invest in quality cards instead. I do like having the built in flash, even if it is on the weak side.

The af system in the D5oo is heads above the d7500. It is actually the same af system in the d5 and the d850. If bif is a hobby it might be worth it if not then it may not. I had the d7200 and the D5oo is awesome compared to the d7200

Thanks for the replies. I thought I wanted the d500; however, looking at the features I would use, I feel the d7500 will do the job I want (plus a fair amount less money). Reviews look good. Now to save some money up to get it. I probably will sell my d5200 after a friend I lent it to gets through with it as I still will have a couple of DSLR’s as backups.

I appears from your post that two slots are not important and that having a flash may be important. I believe you have made your decision.

I have a D7100 and a D7500. The D7100 has a higher megapixel count, so I use it when that is important to me (see my posts on birds and squirrels). I use the D7500 for general shooting and tripod work, since it can be controlled from my cell phone.

I love my D7500. I upgraded from a D3200 and the difference is phenomenal. The D500 does have a superior focusing system but I chose the D7500 because I prefer the smaller size and obviously the price difference. I have no regrets, it's a great camera. Don't be concerned of the few mp difference because the newer and better processor makes up for the difference.

I've had a D7500 for several years and enjoy it. Takes beautiful pictures and sensor has tremendous dynamic range, which can be exploited with post processing. Probably the biggest difference between D7500 and D500 is the number of focus points. D7500 system similar to D7200. D500 has a lot more focus points, which fill the frame. I upgraded from D7000 and never used the second card slot. I think people over-react to the 1 card slot issue.

I too think folks overthink the issue about 1 or 2 card slots. After all, photographers worked for decades with film, which has no backup. Pictures were lost, but so what. I think it matters only to a minuscule fraction of photographers, and I'll grant them the need for dual slots when they're getting paid to get the shots. Just my rant. No intention to offend anyone.

It's another way to claim your camera is better.
