Just 3 years old this month. Getting camera ready to shoot some BB, and Auto focus won't focus. I hear motor sound running, but nothing. Manual focus of course does. Calling Canon tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen. Worth getting repaired? I'm sure it won't be cheap. My 30D, 50D and 7D are still working!! "knock on wood"!!! Thanks -----------SENSORLOUPE

Why do you think it's the camera? Why isn't it the lens? What lens? You're saying the lens taken off the 7DII and mounted directly to the other EOS bodies and AF works fine?

How about another separate lens tested on both bodies?

How is the 7DII configured? If you place it in the green box auto, does that change anything?

I switched the lens to another camera right away, hoping it was the lens. It worked on the other camera. Put a different lens on the mark11, no auto focus. Seems to focus in the green box, but the motor sound runs longer after focusing.

Auto overrides the photographer's configuration. If it will focus there, you need to remember the change you've made that is active in other modes. If you're testing with a lens that has IS, turn the IS off and see if that changes the noise you're hearing.

Could it be back button focus and you hear the IS active, rather than focus?

I have to laugh. I bought a used 7D Mkll and it wouldn't focus. I called the guy and said you sold me a bad camera. He said he set it up with back button focus. "Keep it simple stupid" is one of my fovorite sayings. lol

I use Back Button focus on some of my cameras but not all. To remind myself which cameras are set up for BBF, I attach a blue dot label on the top of the camera. You don't have to use blue. You can choose any color you like.

While I've never owned the 30D, I have owned the 20D and the 50D, both of which could be set up for BBF.

I personally find the blue dot works better than other color dots.

Once again you came through for a fellow Canon user. Nicely done
