My Dad used to say: Some things are "Good Junk"!
To make a short story shorter, what he meant was; If a product or item performed its intended task, and was built "reasonably well", it was "Good Junk"!
Yesterday I was at Walmart having some prints made, and while waiting, I always browse the electrical section.
While browsing, I bought this ring light. As a portrait photographer of many years, I think I have all the lights I will
ever need, but ...I am a sucker for lights!
As far as product goes, it is what my father called "Good Junk"! And for $38.00, I bought this "Good Junk".
I was impressed for its performance, and its weight. I am sure the whole set up weighs under 2lbs.
That said...the attached photos tell the story. (Don't mind the sloppy desk, or the photography)
Thanks,
Boone.
Yes, GOOD junk ! ........thanks for sharing
Looks like a fun toy! Thanks for sharing.
I’m using a few “good junk” items from Walmart. Some “good junk” is cleverly designed and more innovative than the traditional items from respected brand names. The premium brands are more ruggedly built, but the “good junk” is definitely better-than-good-enough for non severe conditions of use.

Wow if I needed a ring light, before your post, the last place I'd have looked would have been Walmart.
The box states it’s “For use with most smartphones”. What does your smartphone have to do with the light’s operation? If the light doesn’t connect to a phone, I would think it could be used with any smartphone.

I thought a ring light was something a jeweler used to take advertising pictures of his rings.
I have lots of good junk. I never know when it will turn into something useful and essential. If I throw it away, it's gone forever.

Good Junk are the treasures you drag home from a garage sale having not spent over $10.00. (ps and the wife authenticates your purchase by saying, "What is that Junk!"
“Good junk” is basically any thing I come across that I find interesting and may or may not have use for now or in the undefined future. The critical test is if my wife asks: “You didn’t buy that, did you? What the hell are you going to do with it?”

It can be used for "Lighting"...with any Smart phone...but the phone has "Nothing to with the light or its operation"!
"You control"... the lights functions via the inline controller or the remote controller. BTW: The remote controller must
be "Pointed At" the "Inline Controller" for the remote to work.
"Good Junk"...for the money vs the many lighting configurations.
I think this light is good for "Still Life", or Macro shoots as well as many other uses.
It may also be good for a "Background Prop Light" for many types of shoots.
Thanks,
Boone.

Clearly, it means what it says.
Read again, think again.

For which smartphones is it NOT suitable for use? That's the question that the statement on the box raises.

The target market for these is teens and millennials who vlog (meaning they produce video blogs on YouTube). Ring lights are flattering for faces. Put your smartphone in the center of the light, aiming the camera at yourself, and record with soft, even lighting. Or use one for that, and another off-axis for accent color or background drama.
It’s cheap glamour…
As for not working with certain phones, it has an integrated smartphone clip/holder, which may have phone size limitations.
