That was the lamest big announcement ever! I’m hoping for something much better from Nikon tomorrow.

For those who do not follow Olympus, they sold their camera business to JIP who created OMD Digital Solutions. So, OMD put out press release that they had a big announcement about Oly cameras. Rumors were that there was going to be a new camera announced.
But no. Today, OMD announced that hence forth, their cameras and lenses would be marketed and emblazoned as OMD (or some such nonsense.) That's it along with some word salad about dedication to future tech, blah blah.
As a dedicated Olympus user, I am disheartened by this oddball announcement. Makes me question their sensibilities. A new water resistant Pen F? That would have been news. A M43 version of the Sony RX100 would have been news. Alliance with other brands of varying camera related things would have been news, a better pro program or a much more robust on-line M43 instructional program would have been news. This was totally lame.

It was just a name change from OM Digital Solutions to OM Systems. They did talk about having new stuff in the works, likely a higher resolution MFT sensor but for anyone ready for a big announcement it was a letdown.
So in other word no more Olympus cameras (except for the endoscope camera). So we can say it's the end of Olympus camera just like Minolta ended.

I don’t know where you got that.

Petapixel as well as DPreview.
"OM Digital, the company that was spun off from Olympus early this year by Japan Industrial Partners (JIP), is making its next major step: rebranding the cameras it will produce as OM System and leaving the Olympus name behind."
Leaving the Olympus name behind means they make cameras but not Olympus. Just like Sony makes a lot of cameras but not Minolta. Also I read that the deal didn't come with the Olympus name.

Minolta>Konica Minolta>Sony

Olympus needs to keep their Olympus name for their non consumer products.
I wonder if Sony owns the Minolta name to prevent any upstarts from launching a new enterprise based on its widespread name recognition and acceptance. There is plenty of trash marketed under names such as Kodak, Polaroid, Vivitar, etc etc.

Sony doesn't own the Minolta name. Konica Minolta is still in business just not making camera. I don't think JIP owns the Olympus name either. The names, Minolta or Olympus is more valuable than their camera business.

They also talked about a 20f1.4 lens and a potential new camera OM-1X or something.

I would not dare to make such a statement. The camera division of Olympus was sold to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP) in early January of this year. It has been 10 months since that business transaction and the new company promised a new camera that has not been in the market as of today. I know they have introduced a couple of new lenses in these past 10 months but the new camera is nowhere to be seen. I watched the advertisement and I saw the videos and I also was disappointed. Why changing the Olympus brand? It does not make any sense to me.
I like Olympus, as a matter of fact I am using 3 of their cameras, the Pen EP-5, the OM-10 Mk II and the first version of the EM-1. They all are excellent bodies with lots of recent technologies that make the life of the photographer easier. I like their optics too although I also use Panasonic lenses. They have been discounting their cameras but I do not know how successful they have been with those sales. The new camera was once again announced in their new marketing but nobody knows when that will happen or which new features it will have.
I have not seen many used Olympus cameras or lenses lately for sale which tells me that people are holding what they have. I cannot predict the future success of the company but they better do something soon than a lot of talking and promises. I bet a majority of Olympus fans got very disappointed in yesterday's announcement.
Olympus has had a great reputation among photographers with their small cameras and sharp lenses. I do not believe their professional cameras were to the task during the film era but that is me. Their digital M43 system has been very successful with excellent bodies and lenses and hopefully the new company will continue with such reputation but they better do something and do it soon.

I agree with superfly, the video was very well done but lacked content for Oly shooters relative to bodies and lenses.
