I am 79 and we did a similar trip in 2018. I use Canon gear. My advice is to take one of your longest lenses for distant game and birds. I used a 7D Mark II (APS-C) with a 100-400mm lens and a 1.4 extender for 900mm. Sometimes the game gets very close and so you need a camera with a lens suitable for that. I took a full-frame 5D Mark III with a 24 to 105mm lens. The combination worked just fine. Enjoy your trip. Ken

I totally agree! I went to Kenya with same lenses and just returned from Zimbabwe, but had the newer 100-500 as well as 24-105 and it covers just about everything! 2 bodies is very nice as you don’t want to change lenses in the field. Although rainy season may not be so dusty!
You will love it!!!,

I went to South Africa in August and took my P-1000 and my D7500. The 7500 stayed at the lodge and the P1000 got a good workout. The animals can be 10 feet away and seconds later you will see something interesting at 100 yards. The P1000 is always ready. I am not a pro, but I was very happy with the photos I took. The video was also incredible.

Thank you, that’s what I was thinking, might not be really time to set up and fiddle with lenses and tripods, my p1000 is amazing steadyshot even full extension. Thanks again, did you go South Africa?

Your all lucky, I've wanted to go to South Africa for years but age and health have made it impossible!
