Sony RX10 IV animal eye focus

I may be the last person to have caught on to this but just in case..

I very rarely use full-auto and prefer to focus using DMF so this was an accidental discovery. I needed to quickly get some snapshots of some feral kittens we had just captured so that the local rescue group could help place them. That is when I noticed that the camera was putting the little green square (focus point indicator) on the kitten's eye. I don't use face recognition or pre-registered faces. This is all just something the camera does.

Who knew? 😳

FYIO

These two are "calico" and "stripes". We caught their two siblings earlier (near-calico and tortoise shell). Yes, they are crappy shots; please skip those remarks. The reason for the post is the camera's feature. The pics are because someone would ask.

Be careful. I once caught feral kitten in my garage. I’ve never seen such a vicious critter. Growling like a small bobcat. It was like the Tasmanian Devil in the cartoons! Wow.

It might be that one of the reasons the RX10IV is so expensive is in part due to what Sony does that makes "auto" features work so well. My wife learned photography on a Nikkormat. Now, with her RX10IV, she doesn't take it off "auto" unless there is a clear reason to do so.

Don't know anything about the RX10 IV but yeah, we had a feral cat/kitten come into our garage and grab a baby rabbit that we had just rescued and was keeping in a cardboard box on the garage floor. I use a Nikon D850, it doesn't use animal eye focus but does a great job getting eyes sharply focused almost every time.

So, if my camera focuses on my dachshunds eye, will his wagging tail also be in focus? Asking for a friend 🤓🤓🤓

Our dachshund's tail is so fast that focus doesn't matter. Motion blur prevents seeing any focus problem.

That is what .22 rifles are made for, ridding one's garage of feral cats, safely and where legal of course.
