From Amazon, a Mac book , perfect still runs like a charm, upgraded OS several times

Refurbished computers are most of the time better than new ones. Manufacturers put returned units thru more stringent testing than the new ones. Referbs (by manufacturer) are typically all that I buy and one Dell that I have is currently 12 years old and still works perfectly which I use for word processing only.

Don't forget Gazelle. I've bought and sold Macs from them and have always been delighted.

I've had excellent results with refurbished computers. Quite often refurbishing only requires the replacement of a harddrive or a broken screen. I have a refurbished 17" HP laptop that is still running 12 years later; however, it will only run Windows 7 but that is just fine.

Several years ago I purchased a refurbished Dell Latitude laptop with an I-7 processor and a 750 gb 7200 rpm hard drive from Walmart for $320. It came with Win7 Professional which is exactly what I was looking for so I could run older versions of AutoCad after installing the XP compatibility mode software from Microsoft. You needed either Win 7 Pro or Ultimate to use that.
I no longer have it but it was very fast and I never had a problem with it. At that time it was an outright bargain for $320.
I don't remember who the refurbisher was.

I do the refurbish instead of buying a refurbished unit.
It's a good way to save money though .
When I refurb a computer I inspect all the capacitors and replace any that are even slightly swollen.
I replace the hard drive and often upgrade the RAM before reinstalling the operating system and drivers.

I have never bought anything refurbished from Walmart and I don’t trust eBay.
I have bought several used computers made by Dell from Micro Center in Dallas Texas. Never ever had a problem with any of them.

U.K. I use 'refurbished' Microsoft Certified (whatever that means) used ex-office stock. Usually pay around 20-25% of a new model, but a chip a few years old is good enough for me.
The model I have at the moment (HP EliteDesk SFF) is doing quite well, and good for another few years hopefully, but it won't run Windows 11. First time I've ever come unstuck on one of these.
But it did come with Windows 10 Pro so I'll be allright for a few years yet.
An alternative to 'new' reconditioned.
