I do not know why the photo media keeps trying to compare these two models. The Z9 is probably going to win in most categories but the Z9 is the Nikon flagship. The R3 is not the flagship according to Canon. The what is expected to be the R1 will be the new flagship. I expect this will be announced in 2022. Once released the R1 can be compared to the Z9 and only then. For that round I expect that the R1 will be the best camera since Nikon will ship first and Canon if it makes sense can add or upgrade features before announcing and shipping

Nikon didn't use the #1 yet so they can always have the Z1 after the R1.

One thing is clearly different: the one is embossed with the letters: C A N O N

Based on how Nikon names cameras I expect the Z9 is probably their flagship until they release a Z9 II.

Nikonrumors expects the official announcement of the Z9 next week on the 28th. The 3rd teaser was released today and illustrates focus tracking, eye, face, vehicle, etc.

There was one shot of the camera being used in continuous shooting mode and someone analyzed it and counted 37 frames in 1.7 seconds indicating that the rumored 20fps would be true.

They keep comparing them because there are people who will start start discussions. The media needs these folks to stay in business.

I would be really impressed to see a teaser illustrating its abilities indoors, low light events such high school basketball! (Yeah, like THAT will happen!). Let's face it, in nice, outdoor lighting they can put on a show of the features. But let me see what it will be like when I use it in my world!

Nikonrumors has some quotes today from people who have used the Z9:

"Heard from a guy who handled the Z9 this week he was totally blown away…at all levels.”

“And, this is no catch-up game from Nikon, it’s surpassing the competition with huge margins!”

“The price of the Nikon Z9 is going to be a surprise, of the positive one.”

Given that last quote we may have been wrong expecting a price between $6000-$7000 which would fall in line with their previous pro cameras.

I saw a video a few days ago where the guy who made the video predicted that if Nikon could get the price down to $5000 they would get a lot more people other than pros to buy one.

The one with the embossed N I K O N will clearly be the superior one.

Yes, folks like us here at UHH to "Bench Test" the cameras or argue about the next best "NiCanSon".

How much time would Canon need to add features to the R1 after it sees the Z9? It's not like adding chrome or leatherette.

For how long? This is a professional camera that will have a limited audience because of price. Even the Canon R5 is above most hobbyists and the RF lenses are very expensive. The R6 is popular because it is in the range that many hobbyists can afford and like me, I continue to use my EF lenses with the Canon adapter and many work better on the RF adapter than native. I expect that the R1 will jump over the Z9 however at what point is enough really enough for the average user. I think we have reached that point.
