Some time ago, I received some excellent guidance on basic settings for the RX10.
Long story short, the camera is back to it's defaults and I have no idea where I got the excellent settings advice from. Should have saved them - definitely will next time!
Would appreciate any recommendations, please.
There is a excellent book written by White - Photographer's Guide to the Sony DSC - RX10IV. This tells you where to set all the features on the RX10M4 camera and how they operate. I have this book myself and I have used it as a research guide to setting the camera myself. It really helps.

I would try gary@friedmanarchives.com
Mr. Friedman writes books on just about every camera that Sony has manufactured.
He also sells them on disks.
His books even show suggested settings for each model.
He makes the settings so simple that even I could understand my camera pretty well.
That is also a good book.
Thanks - will definitely have a conversation with my old friend Amazon!
Anyone got any brief ideas I could use immediately? I'm a long way from home - wandering round New England for a couple of weeks - and it may not be possible to find either book while wandering.
What do u need settings with? I have the book and maybe I can help u out until you get the book. Send me a PM and I will return it back with a way to contact me.
Very much appreciate the offer, thanks.
Mentioned to my wife that I'd like to find a book store and she immediately suggested a Kindle version - hate it when I miss the glaringly obvious. $9 later, I have an e version of the White book and will probably order a paper copy later.

This user has written several free, downloadable "books" on the RX10iv with settings that essentially make it into a point and shoot. The link here is a PDF file, and is for nature and bird in flight shots. I found some of it to be very useful. He likes to work with JPEG, but all the setting combinations i found work fine with RAW.

I’m glad your wife was helpful! That’s the suggestion I was going to make. I have the White book for my RX10 on my Kindle and it goes with me wherever I go.

Use "Auto".
The majority here seem to believe in traditional manual settings. Yet, meanwhile "computational photography" has become a big deal. It is why phones can take good pictures with tiny lenses. Sony's version of computational photography for the RX10 and RX100 series is very good. It is one of the reasons that they are so expensive! Sony takes "AUTO" seriously and invests in it.
Reset a Sony RX10 or RX100 to factory, out of the box, defaults and twist the knob to the AUTO setting. Then spend a day looking for and composing shots.
I know this works well because my it is how my wife comes home with so many great images from our travels. While I'm fiddling with PASM setting, tripods and lenses, she is getting the shots!

I would go to youtube.com and search for best settings for RX-10 for the kind of subject matter you're interested in shooting and watch some video, pausing as needed to follow along as you choose the interested settings. It is a quick method to get where you want to be.
