I bought a new canon pro 100 about a week ago and was trying it out printing photos . I picked photos that I wanted to check out how it did with many of the different colors . I was pretty happy until I printed out a few with what I call true red colors in them . One was of a red corvette , one was of a old 40's red pickup , and the last one was a old red farmall tractor . All three were a true red color I photographed at this years fair parade . They all look correct on my Benq montors . I
used Qimage Ultimate 21 to print the photos using let the printer driver manage color , I tried the printer setting for the type of canon paper I was using , and I tried right clicking on the photo , select print and printing that way . All three photos printed out a reddish orange . The photo of the red truck I even tried selecting just the truck and adjusted the vibrance to full amount to make the truck even stronger red . Has anyone had this problem and then got it to print out red correctly . Here is the a photo of what I saw and the camera took , the 2nd photo is what the print came out to look like after I moved the yellow slider a lot to where the photo looked like after printing so you could see what I am talking about . All three vehicles printed out the same orangeish red or reddish orange if you prefer . All ink is canon's ink that came with the printer . All other colors I printed on canon's 4 by 6 Plus Glossy ll look very good so far . I sent the two photos to a friend that has this printer and he said he would print out a copy of the the first photo to see what it looks like and let me know ..

Thanks to anyone who can help me get the reds to be more correct ... Stay safe Tommy

First you need to go to Jtoolman's web site and You Tube Video channel. He is a printing guru. He has many different printers and can provide you more information than you want to know. I'm going to summarize some of the things I've learned from him. Before anything, you need start with a properly calibrated monitor.

Every individual printer has slightly different characteristics (ie. color profile). Also every different type of paper can have a different color profile. First thing you need to do is print a "standard image" (not one you have taken and/or processed) to judge the color accuracy of your specific printer/paper combination. (If you use aftermarket carts or ink, that's another factor to be considered) That standard image needs to be printed without any bias introduced by printer drivers or post processing software. You may have to expriment with different color profiles or even make/obtain a specific color profile for your printer.

Your Canon Pro 100 is capable of producing outstanding color prints. The effort and time invested in getting it profiled/calibrated will be well worth it.

I forgot to mention I use high quality Benq monitors that are calibrated often using their program Palette Master and a i l display pro to calibrate them and then run the verification process . I used the ink that came with the printer . I did all the things required when setting it up for the first time . I just tried a photo of a old red pickup I downloaded and made no changes before printing . It did print out closer to the original but still printed out with a little orange look. I even tried different photo paper brands to see what the red would print out . I already know printers and inks are set up for that printer . I have watched a lot of his videos before I bought this printer and I watched his video about setting up this printer , to set this printer up for the first time . Red is the only color printing wrong .

Here is what I just learned from another site I checked .

This was a deficiency found in the OEM Canon inks by Precision Color inks maker Mike Lee and corrected in his 3rd party Signature Edition inks with a new ink set.

It's reported that Canon corrected it in the current modified ink set for their new Canon 200 printer.

Being the this new printer is about 2 1/2 yrs old , I am guessing it has the old ink . I guess I will have to buy the Newer Precision Color inks that Jose F Rodriguez - AKA Jtoolman talks about on Youtube

Canon has a free print controller app for Canon printer owners that can be downloaded from their support site. "Print Studio Pro", under the "Color Settings" tab - far right at the top - scroll down to the bottom and there is a button "Pattern Print" which will produce a page of thumbnails at different settings, with notes of what was changed so you can pick the best and then change your print settings to get that result.
I have it as a plug-in for both LR and PS and have used it since I got my Pro-100.

Jose really knows his stuff. He even has recommendations on which papers give the best results and use of the ICC profiles.

I have been refilling with Precision Colors ink since the second year I owned my Pro-100. I just got a set of bottles of the new Signature improved formula inks.
Save your OEM cartridges, PC has the plugs etc. and instructions on drilling and flushing them to refill without mixing and contaminating the inks. I have 3 sets I saved from my first year(I saved them to recycle but procrastination meant I also still had them when I switched to PC). Reconditioning them is a pain but PC themselves tell you the OEM cartridges are better than their aftermarket ones.

Jose has good tips on reconditioning OEM cartridges.

Not yet mentioned is the possibility that both the Canon Pro-100 printer driver and your photo software are managing the color. There will be a fight between the two making for odd colors coming out of the printer.

Most turn it off on the printer end and have their photo software do it. I found that it works better for me the other way. Note that Canon does not make it easy or logical when it comes to turning the color management on or off.

After using my Pro-100 for a while the portraits of my grandchildren were coming out a bit to red for my liking. I tried everything - up to almost totally desaturating the red. The monitor looked perfect but the printer didn't cooperate. It turned out that the "light gray" tank was depleted but the printer still printed. I replaced the tank and pictures were again perfect.

Strange, but that was the problem/solution. Maybe you'll get lucky too.

Try one of Canon's better papers. I have had similar problems using that paper.

This is a strange and possibly damaging behavior since the print head can burn out if ink runs dry.

With my Pro-100 I get a warning that ink is running low and says to prepare a new cartridge. If I continue, which I do since it is really an advance warning, the printer will stop and there is a warning screen that ink has run out. I never print past that point.

I see the carriage house of the Gibson House in the background.
Jamestown is looking good.
I personally would not be too concerned, printers have always suffered from miss matches. Beauty is in the eye's of the beholder, your being too critical.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I understand your dilemma. That's a beautiful RED truck! And you certainly want the print to depict that. I find red difficult to get right, as usually it turns out to be a blob of red with little or no definition. As mentioned above, the house in the background doesn't appear to have a yellow cast, nor do the leaves on the trees. So it's not an overall cast, but just the reds. I would try another image with bright red, and adjust the red slider down a bit from the orange side and see if that works. If so, you can know that's a fix you need. I used to have to do a lot of that when I was using HP printers. But my Pro-100 delivers exactly what I see.

Here is the video that another member gave me on another site to watch about why I see reddish orange colors . Jose explains this in this video after a few minutes into the video . So I ordered everything I need to switch to Precision Inks . And a previous member on here that I keep in contact with also advised me to switch to Precision ink . Thanks for all your suggestions . If you want to watch the video , here is the address

Try downloading Canons Print Studio Pro plugin and using that when you print from either Lightroom or Photoshop. I think it works in a few other apps as well. This plugin make printing accurate and easy. One of the best things it offers is the ability to print a grid of small pictures that changes the colors slightly or the brightness and contrast slightly. So you choose this option for color, then it prints a bunch of little thumbnails of the pic on whatever size paper you choose. Then from the grid of thumbnails, you choose the one that has the best color and then tell it to print that version. It's really easy and makes choosing the correct colors easy.
