You will be very frustrated by the short times you will spend in these areas. It is hard to predict when the peak of foliage will be, and then will you have sunny days or rain? Definitely the Kancamagus Highway and Cog Railroad - you might need reservations this time of year. The loop around Mt Washington takes you to covered bridges and short hikes to nice waterfalls. You need at least a week. I really like the Arnold Arboretum in Boston - but it is probably more a springtime delight (May when the lilacs and crabapples bloom especially). The Head of the Charles might be foliage time in Boston, but that would be two weeks or so past the White Mountains of NH.

All great suggestions. See the pix I posted a couple of years ago that I took around and on Frankenstein Trestle near the cliffs of the same name. Columbus Day Weekend is usually peak. The trestle is a little hairy but the shots and other spots you can get to from it offer spectacular opportunities for pix of Crawford Notch, foliage, and trains. The railroad right of way to the trestle can be accessed from the Aresthusa and Ripley Falls Trails.

You might like to ride up the tram a Canon Mountian. Lot fun and great views, right off rt. 93. And simply ride up 93 and you will find something of intrest to take photos of. Have a great time.

I noticed your location information. I was born in Yonkers, Bellevue Ave., and now live in LSD. Just came back from a trip through northern NE and we stayed 2 nites at the Eagle Mountain House before going to Moosehead and then Tenants Harbor. Great time.

Bellevue? Near Roberts, where the ferret rescue lady lives?

We were in Nepera Park, and later moved to Lincoln Park, and now live in Millsboro.

We're practically neighbors, twice!

Franconia is less than an hour from Glen. There's a spot called Artist's Bluff. It's a hike up a hillside. Not sure of your age or health, but I'm an out-of-shape-overweight 69 year old male and I made the climb.

Lots of good advice here already so I can't add anything. Dennis great shot of the notch and The Canon Mt. Ski area on the right. My wife and I were both avid downhill skiers up until when we hit our early '60s. One comment about your shot of the Franconia Notch and Canon to Vanderhala when you're looking up at Canon from one of the scenic overlooks it's much larger than it appears in the photo. Actually it's very intimidating and some of the ski trails are very steep. Very beautiful country and worth the trip. Many times on our way to the North Conway area we'd take the longer route thru Franconia Notch and Pinkham Notch because it was a much more scenic ride.

Thanks. One thing that impresses me from all comments: we are hoping to see the Fall Colors, but it sounds we might be surprised already by much more wintry weather??? Hadn’t counted on that Oct 6-12.
