Thanks for your comment. As I said, this is probably an oldie but a goodie; as such , who cares if it's got lotsa miles on it? I'm glad that you enjoyed it. BTW, I'm not familiar with that 3 Stooges routine, tho I saw many of the films back in the day.

Dang, I wonder if I am thinking of the Marx brothers. I am going to try to pin this down. Old age is not what it used to be.

I think it was the Marx brothers. Groucho was involved, if my memory serves well.

I just ran a brief google search. Apparently the stage business is titled, "Niagara Falls", originally a Vaudeville sketch. It was done by the Three Stooges and other groups. The original version involved two clowns. The one version I recalled was where a crow was involved and using a white sheet, thinking it was on the Three Stooges.

One of the things about Internet, you just about have to form the question with the answer contained within to get the good answer.

Even Lucille Ball used it in one of her shows, according to one source.

A video containing the three stooges.:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n3uO6Cw4ds

Old joke: Why did Einstein, Hawking, and Langan get together in their late 80s? They figured that together they will be able to come up with a brilliant thought.

How about the pacifist Quaker who, while brandishing his shotgun, confronted a burglar and said "Pardon me, sir, but thou standist where I am about to shoot."

Very funny.

Reminded me of the parrot who sounded, "Turned around. Inch by inch.... etc" (An old Three Stooges routine.)

PS., Speaking about old being new, I started using some of Henny Youngman's jokes. The "youngsters" are just tickled with the "new" jokes.

I think it was "Slowly, I turned, inch by inch...etc". By Abbott and Costello I believe, but of course the Stooges could have done it too.

Looking back through the haze of age, apparently it was Larry Fine who said "Inch by inch" before "Step by step". Anyways, an interesting run down in the above link regarding "Niagara Falls" routince.

Reminded of the old joke:

The first car, driven by a rabbi, stopped at a stop sign was hit by the car driven by the local parish priest. The officer to the scene was an old Irish cop, O'Rielly. He stops at the first car and talks to the rabbi, then he goes to the second vehicle, and asks the driver, "And, Father, how fast was he backing up when he ran into you?"

And to all those of the Jewish faith, Happy Rosh Hashana!
"May you be inscribed in the book of life and have a good year".

Thanks for sending that link about the background of the sketch. I was never a big Three Stooges fan and was unaware they originated it. That article was pretty interesting, especially mentioning Lucille Ball and Phil Silvers doing a version. I seem to recall that Abbott and C. used Buffalo instead of Niagara Falls, but it has probably been over 30 years since I saw the routine so I could be mistaken. We need more of these routines today.

Just as a cap . It is my understanding is that the routine was at first a Vaudeville stage routine. Because it was such a wonderful sketch that it was used by many through the years. And they tailored the bits to fit the area they were in. "Who's on first" is a great example. Abbott and Costello always scanned the papers from the town they were going to be in. The ball team was always the local team that was the background for the skit.
