I don't know what they are but not walking sticks. I have an image of a walking stick if you care to see what they look like.

Something interrupted their mating it seems. I think they are a form of walking sticks.

The males will mount an immature female and ride her until she matures, patiently waiting beside her as she molts, then remounting and copulating when she’s ready. Perhaps she waited too long to grow up?
