"So what are you in for? I killed ten people."

How humiliating.

Sad, but TRUE:
In Texas, a Black woman was recently (in November, 2020) convicted of a Felony and sentenced to FIVE (5) years in prison for REQUESTING a provisional ballot because she had not received her ballot in the mail. (She did NOT cast the ballot!)

I have to wonder WHO are the REAL criminals here? Seems to me they are the judge; the prosecuting attorney; and, the jurors who participated in this judicial travesty!

The woman did more than request a ballot. Under Texas law she was not allowed to vote in the 2016 election because she was on probation from a federal conviction for multiple counts of federal tax fraud. She violated the law when she voted and she is rightfully is in prison.

It is easy to stay out of prision, just obay the laws that make us a somewhat civilized society.

So she did not understand the law. She is "rightfully in prison?" Given that she had been in prison I suspect that she was not very educated and perhaps not even very bright. And yet - millionaires who provide benefits to employees without paying income tax "because they didn't understand the law" ("who knew?") and politicians who didn't understand campaign finance laws - oh, and let's not forget the Sackler family who made hundreds of millions of dollars by addicting millions of Americans to Oxycontin and moved millions into private accounts before the company declared bankruptcy and the COMPANY was found guilty of violating the law - none of those people go to prison. HSBC bank paid a $1.9 BILLION fine for laundering cartel drug money - and yet NO ONE went to prison. LeVaughn in the 'hood gets busted for a dime bag and he does five years. Go figure.

Howsever, she was actually ASKING for help; when she ASKED for the provisional ballot. Her probation was ending in just a few days; and, she wasking IF she could vote; and, was told to use a provisional ballot. She did NOT actually vote. . but, her conviction was for "merely asking for the provisional ballot". . Which was deemed by the prosecution and the court to be "INTENT" to violate the law. . Since she did NOT vote (her ballot was accepted on a provisional basis; and, was never submitted as a "voted ballot" and was not counted in the vote tally.

Pretty stiff penalty for "intent" (on a shaky ground since she was TOLD by the voting officials at the voting site to get the provisional ballot). . .I worked for a number of years as a "voting official" at voting sites in california; and, often handled similar requests for provisional ballots when the person had questions about "Can I vote?"

As another Hogg has noted persons like the Sacklers and other prominent WHITE persons pleaded "ignorance " of the law . . Even when they hired VERY expensive attorneys to advise them. . .And, they didn't even get a hand-slap!

I watch a lot of disaster investigations, and there are seldom penalties. Even though the owners didn't obey the laws, and people were killed in the accident, some federal body will make recommendations - just recommendations. They can't even require changes - just recommendations. Look at the Chemical Safety Board investigations. Lots of disasters and lots of death, but hardly any penalties. There's no doubt that money and race matter.
