This is also how they test the effectiveness of Depends. I'm not there yet, but this cartoon took me there.

I got a hearty laugh out of your post! Just wondering, however, how many days detention did that get you?
The teacher was writing on the blackboard & had is back to the
class.
Even though the girl screamed, the teacher didn't even turn around
immediately.
I think my pragmatic teacher had eyes in the back of his head and new what was going
on... and was amused as I was.
Apart from that, at primary school here, there was no detention;
"discipline" was meted out with a heartily wielded thick leather strap
about 1/4 of an inch thick, 2 inches wide and about 2 foot long.
You'd be ordered to come to the front of the class hold up your hand
and then have it belted... up to 6 times in succession.
Apart from not being able to use the hand for the next hour
ones shoulder felt like it had been dislocated. "Mr Fluxes" leather strap was a fearsome weapon
.
The standard strap used in Australian primary schools circa 1964
