I may have read this in the past and thought it cynical, but no more so than maybe a grandfather lamenting "when I was your age...." Now I'm sure divine intervention created this quote.
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
The quote is from a post-apocalyptic novel called “Those Who Remain” by the author G. Michael Hopf.
I don't think a 50 000 word essay could better summarize the state of the world today.
The United States and the 'modern cultures' seem to be on the path of good times creating our weak men (pronounced 'leaders') who are now ushering in hard times.
I had to sit through a training whereupon we were blessed with a school dress code that was not allowed (lawyers) to include gendered language. We now have rules barring STUDENTS from exposing cleavage or bras. We have language barring STUDENTS from growing beards. This is a culture of weakness. What strong culture wilts (and sues one another) at the words 'girl' or 'boy'?
This training even had us 'train' ourselves not to use 'boy' or 'girl' to define dress and hygiene expectations in oral or sports-related documents. Our school mascot is The Lady ____'s " Are we going to be sued and forced to change or school mascot? Maybe change our school colors, as one is white? It's phenominally asinine.
I also recalled just now, the articles discussing if CHESS !?!?!? is racist. Possibly the ultimate illustration of weakness looking for an outlet.

What say you all? Are we moving to hard times? Is it because we got safe, fat, lazy, weak? Does greatness stem only from pain and suffering? Can we look for unity and strength before massive hardship?
