Known as the other Rush Limbaugh right-wing radio host who called vaccines “bogus bull shid” had a change of heart after being hospitalised with Covid-19, friends say.

Dick Farrel, 65, a former Newsmax host and pioneer of the shock jock genre, died on Wednesday in West Palm Beach, Florida, from complications relating to Covid-19.

Prior to getting sick, Mr Farrel wrote on Facebook that Dr Anthony Fauci was a “power tripping lying freak”, mocked vaccines and referred to the pandemic that has taken more than 600,000 American lives as a “scamdemic”.

His close friend Amy Leigh Hair said that Mr Farrel had written to her from hospital begging her to get vaccinated.

“He texted me and told me to ‘Get it!’ He told me this virus is no joke and he said, ‘I wish I had gotten it!’”

You are intubated, (a tube run down your trachea) put on paralytics so you can not move; speak etc.; sedated and air is forced into your lungs by a ventilator. If you are fortunate enough to have a highly skilled ICU nurse or respiratory therapist you may be given IV analgesics for pain management albeit if highly trained staff is not available then advanced pain management may not be an option.

As the NYC hospital experience showed... The typical "Floor Nurse" could not effectively manage patients in an ICU Ward. The death rate skyrocketed in this very sad scenario. ICU care is akin to that required in an OR. One-on-one 7/24.

It is not for want of ventilators that Covid-19 patients were dying at the beginning of this crisis it was from want of highly skilled ICU clinicians.

Once the hospital systems are overwhelmed the death rate goes up exponentially for those requiring ICU care that can no longer be provided. Left unabated the current Delta surge has the frightening prospect of maxing out hospital capacities in major population centers throughout the country.

At that juncture divine intervention becomes a last hope.

Final thoughts? It is no longer a Freedom of Choice issue... It is now actually a mater of saving our hospital systems from total collapse. Please stay safe and support our brave medical clinicians who are now finding it virtually impossible to provide effective care for those in harms ways.

People listened to him before he became ill but stopped listening when he implored them from his hospital bed to get vaccinated. So, they continue to be a risk to themselves, a risk to others and possibly a breeder for new variants. What's to worry about?

I have news for you, this guy was not a big talk show host. He didn't even crack the top 10 in conservative talk radio. It's sad that he didn't get vaccinated, but his audience was pretty small. He also had a lot of comorbidities. He was overweight, an ex-smoker, and was pretty much a couch potato. He was also 65. He should have been smart and got the vaccine.

Early on I told my wife: "I am not afraid of dying but I am afraid of being on a ventilator". With viral pneumonia the statistics have always been grim: if you are sick enough to need ventilatory care your chances of survival are very slim. And vent care is extremely personnel-intensive. Not just the respiratory therapists to manage the vent settings, but staff to turn the patient every two hours, to manage the IVs, to manage any feeding tubes and Foley catheters. Staff to bathe the patient and clean up any bowel output and change bedding daily or whenever needed in between. Staff to do skin care - lotions applied to help prevent bedsores, and putting clean padding on areas at risk and inspection of those high-risk areas - the sacrum, heels, elbows, and other areas. Now with the realization that with this disease aeration of the lungs is better with the patient face-down in the bed, all of this care becomes even more complicated. It really is a nightmare of care requiring the most dedicated care teams on the planet. Very hard not to have depression and burnout watching patients that have been cared for so intensely die every day. And now, more than ever, it is young adults and even children.

Not sure what your point is, that you shouldn't get vaccinated because you still might catch covid and breed a variant? If so, the point is not well taken. The more people who get vaccinated, the fewer the number of people (both vaccinated and unvaccinated) who will catch covid, and the less the chance that variants will be created. Get vaccinated!

I actually think the opposite may be true. That variants are created not from the fact that everyone is not vaccinated but because the virus is reacting to being bombarded by the vaccine and naturally mutating because of the vaccine.
