Chit-Chat posts

In the past most of the Daily Forum Digests have had 10 posts in the General Chit-Chat section. I noticed lately that the section has several posts that are "Reruns". In todays Digest (Aug. 4) there are 6 new posts and 4 reruns. Some days there are just as many or more reruns as there are new posts. So what's up with that. Is it because fewer people are posting to the Chit-Chat section or what? Not as many jokes available? JerryC41 has run out of topics to talk about? Chit-Chat is my favorite section on UHH.

Not enough activity? Be a leader, not a follower

Main discussion traffic is also way down. Most regulars just want to react, not initiate thoughtful conversations.

I am one of those guilty people who hardly ever post anything in Chit Chat. I will try to do better and try to not come off as an angry, frustrated old man. lol

It used to be that there were enough new posts in Chit-Chat to replace the posts from the previous day. Not anymore. I think that explains the re-runs.

The emailed digest has a specified number of slots available for each section. For example, volunteer-managed sections get five each, Photo Gallery gets 35, and I believe the main discussion and chit chat have 10 each (or maybe main discussion has 20; it has been awhile since I cared, lol). So yes, if there aren't enough for the digest, Admin has been filling with "re-runs."

btw, 35 may sound like a lot for Photo Gallery, but the actual numbers are usually quite a bit higher - hence the name "digest" when discussing the emailed document. If you use "Newest Topics" at the top of any page, you will find your subscribed sections in one, easy to manage list, updated in real time. Why read yesterday's news?

It is early August, vacation time in the US which is the majority of members. People are out doing things instead of posting things of what they did last summer.

I initiated a post in Chit-Chat some time ago about calling lenses "glass". I thought it was an innocuous comment but I caught hell for it. So I'm not too inclined to say anything that may offend others.

Ed, you are replying to a comment I made in August 2021, which is when you posted this topic

In more recent news, there appears to be dozens of chit chat topics posted every day, mostly by Jerry, Graham and bcheary. You should view UHH via "newest topics" at the top of any UHH page, rather than be limited by the digest. The digest is only a sampling, and is also "yesterday's news." The Newest Topics link displays all the sections to which you're subscribed, in real time, hot off the presses.
