Has anyone had experience with this lense on APS-C format? Interested in using it as walk around with Canon 80D, though not finding one available new or used now.
Use it with my Canon 70D. Excellent lens!
Can't speak on an APS-C but it's a solid lens on full frame. I can't see where it would not perform well on a cropped sensor camera.

I have the first edition of this lens and have used it on my 40D but usually keep it on my 5D III. Seems to be OK on either.

That's my walk around lens for my 7D Mark II. Very versatile lens.

Many people use the Canon 24-105 f/4L on a crop camera and are very happy with it. The newer version was a noticeable improvement over the original. However whether it will meet your needs depends on what you shoot. I generally shoot with wider focal lengths rather than longer ones, and 24 mm on a crop Canon body does not go very wide and does not meet my requirements. My choice as a walk around lens on my Canon 7D Mark II was the Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6.

Yes. Used it on my 70D and then upgraded to a 5D mk4. Obviously the latter is a better camera but the lens worked incredibly well on the 70d.
I have used a EF 24-105mm f/4L on my 7D for several years, works great.
Was looking at a EF 24-105mm f/4L II today on eBay and there were 4 pictures. Two stock pictures of a EF 24-105mm f/4L II and two pictures of a EF 24-105mm f/4L on a colorful carpet. Not sure if the seller does not know the difference or trying to fool someone.
I shot the older 24-105L in a 7D. It's a great combo. But, I 'see' and shoot much wider with the 24-105L II now on a full-frame 5DIII.
Two other full-frame lenses I greatly enjoyed as 'walkaround' for the cropped 7D are the 17-40L and the 16-35L IS. I guess I'm getting up in age enough to prefer the IS-enabled lenses giving more general purpose usefulness moving between both darker and full-light situations. These two wider-angle lenses retain that 'wide' view even after the crop factor.
Don't let the red-ring hype cause you / anyone to overspend. The EF 24–105mm f/3.5–5.6 IS STM is half the price for the same focal length and IS-support. It's way sharper than the older / original 24-105L and is only missing the red-ring and weather-proofing of the 2x more expensive lenses. The non L lens also has the locking-feature that was the chief weakness of the original 24-105L.
bought it as a refurb direct from Canon several years ago and have never taken it off my old 20D! Truly, an excellent lens! See this example recently shot with it:

This is my exact walk around combination. Very pleased with this lens on my 80D.
The best walk around lens for Canon crop cameras is the 15-85 EFS. Gives you a wider angle of view and good range. With the 24-105, which is a great lens, you are much more limited once you put it on a crop sensor body.
I have used this lens on an 80D with fine results. Also use it on full frame 6D II with good results. Now I use it on a R5 with good results. You should be able to find a used version that would be satisfactory.

Same here. However, I was disappointed in sharpness when wide open, but by f6.3,its a really nice lens.
