One thing I have always loved about the members of UHH is the varied photographs they submit for perusal by other members. I have always wanted to take a night time traffic pattern of white lights coming toward me and red lights going away from me. I always put it off until maybe a week ago one of our members submitted such a photograph. It brought back memories from years back that I STILL had never done that.

Recently some of you may have noticed my series on paragliders from above Rincon Point. While up on the hill I happened to walk to the opposite end of the field where people were taking off into the sky and noticed a perfect photo opportunity to try some night photos. Tonight was the night. I knew it would be close to dark at 8:30 so was there with camera on tripod at 8:15. I took a few practice shots to get my picture framed where I wanted it and to make sure it was level with the ocean in the background. These are three photographs showing a progression from dusk to dark. The middle photograph was not cropped in yet so you can see where I was before cropping in.

I hope you like these. I am open to constructive criticism or good suggestions. You won't hurt my feelings because I can always do it again another night.

Dennis

Used to live in California and know that area well as I've driven it many times. So, I'm a poor one to evaluate your photos 'cause I love them without thinking. That said, I believe you've accomplished what you set out to do.
Thanks for posting and posting the originals.

I think you captured the lights perfectly.

Years ago I stopped at the top of the 405 going into the valley and took a nighttime picture and I remember the lights of the cars going away from me. They were vividly red and from your photos I can see that they are now orange. I never paid attention to taillight colors until your photo brought it to my attention. Nice going.

I really like the third one.

I have always been interested in doing some thing similar, but it’s tough in the district of flat land and straight roads.

Well done! Haven't shot one in a good few years. Need to throw a tripod in the car next time I'm going to be somewhere at night where there is traffic .
