This is the Onaqui mountain band in northern Utah. This Stallion stopped to see what my next move might be. Those are his Mares in the dust. The stallion does not lead the mares, his job is to keep other stalions away. The Alpha mare leads the band. The dust was so fine that after 2 days i was getting choked up and had to leave earlier than i had planned. Nikon D4 with a Nikkor 600mm lens.

Dear mild candor... I love everything about horses and photography and find your excellent image especially interesting. I love the fact that ALMOST everything in the image is in dusty and hazy except the stallion, making him jump out at the view. I have a question regarding how the stallion and two horses on the far right are not hazy. (Is that how the dust actually covered part of the herd; or is that something that you did while editing long after the photo was taken?) I would prefer that ONLY the stallion be focused and clear, but you may not have had that option at your disposal. Very nice work!

Beautiful shot--the classic stallion and herd. I also like the black and white effect.

The dust was blowing away from me uncovering the foreground first it was not done in photoshop. I vignetted the image slightly.
