Why don't the most recent SLR's & more advanced mirrorless cameras host advanced functions like slow/super slow motion video, time lapsed video, real time focus or exposure stacking, low light sensitivity, wave length filtering, etc? I know that smart phone cameras also don't contain all of these features but most have a least a couple, seems like smart phone camera functionality is out pacing the high end cameras where it should be leading it. I get that processing a large format 40m pixel image takes a lot of computer and memory but if that is the reason why not simply reduce the virtual image resolution. Do all images or video need to be super high res? Not trying to come-off critical and admittedly I'm new to the latest camera technologies so it may have just passed me by - Curious

Why don't the most recent SLR's & more advance... (show quote)

While the new Nikon Zfc mirrorless camera shoots 4k video at 30 fps it does allow for up to 120 fps in standard HD video...that would give you slow motion.

I don't personally use my DSLR (or smartphone for that matter) to shoot video, so I'm not aware of the specifications for other brands...just doesn't interest me.

I use the proper tool for the specific job. I don't use my slip joint pliers to pull a tooth and I don't use a telephone to take a picture. Granted some of them are getting pretty good. But I'll use a camera to take a picture and a telephone to call some one.

I just reread this and boy do I sound like an old fuddy duddy.

Because not everyone will use every possible setting, setup, configuration, combination, handy-dandy photo thingy if presented.
Only very few people who like to play and experiment a lot.
Manufactures won't cater to ten people, but they might include all the "trending" crap that millions seem to use.

Smart phones do not have superzoom lenses. I don't believe you can set iso, fps, shutter speed and aperture on a smart phone. You cant tweak jpegs like you can a raw image. They give you the ability to shoot auto, but sometimes auto doesn't do the job, especially when you want to decide things like exposure, depth of field, etc. Most people are happy with their smart phones because they don't care if they don't have the above features, or may not have any knowledge of them.

My Panasonic DMC-ZS60 actually does have most of those features you listed. Not that it qualifies as a "high end" camera. I suppose most high end camera owners are not particularly interested in such features.

You obviously have not used a smart phone recently.

On my three year old phone I can set the zoom, metering, ISO, shutter speed, EV, autofocus, white balance, macro and so much more.

For me a "Dedicated" still camera should not do video.

AND... if I wanted to do videography, I'd use a video camera

No, its all built in and it uses a 42MP sensor which is down sampled unless in the high res mode. This is not an expensive phone as phones go...cost less than $500.

The only problem that I see is in direct sun light the screen is almost useless. If only it had a view finder.

I have the Panasonic TZ100 one-inch sensor Superzoom, and it has many of the more exotic functions... however, when reviewed by ET, he was disappointed because he could not "Call Home." ET said that when he applied the AI that he and other extraterrestrials brought to earth that the Image Quality was amazing.

BUT WILL YOUR DSLR PHONE HOME?

Joer, To solve that problem I added a Sunscreen, and then on that, I have an eyeglass magnifier attached so that my eyes go close to the sunscreen and I see the camera LED screen with clarity in bright sun. The screen is shaded and my head blocks any light from behind.

Digital Camera LCD Screen Hood Amazon $15

Carson OcuLens Clip-On Eyeglass Magnifier Set (OL-57) Amazon $10

The clip-on was disassembled and only the flip-down part was used... the clip on the glass part was discarded.
The flip-down was epoxied in place to just fold under the bottom of the camera. The Sunshield assembly is easily removed and attached as you desire. Sorry for the blur but you get the gist of how it is done from this quickly taken no edit photo when you look at the parts on Amazon.

Um, yeah.

I really don’t consider that thing in my pocket to be a telephone. To me it’s a little computer that just happens to take and make phone calls and take photos when I don’t happen to have a camera with me, but it’s handy in a pinch.
