I doubt many Nikon users will be disturbed. Nikon users have become accustomed to other brand users being so insecure in their camera choices that they need to inflate their brand while demeaning Nikon, just so they can feel good about themselves.

Those with a stick up their ass, or with fewer IQ points than a dirt clod, took this post to mean Nikon is an inferior, dying brand. While this is true (move over, Olympus, make room for one more), this was not implied by the OP. Neither was it implied that Sony makes the best gear, although this is also clearly the case.

As for the rest of you who posted troll-ish comments, you've wasted your time. Most hoggers, after reading the first page and seeing the trolls, will do as I did and move on. But I couldn't move on before joining in.

Interesting comments. I would assume that having a stick up one's derrière might prove to be uncomfortable. Excuse my country boy, low IQ, however, while this post did not state Nikon was inferior, it did very much IMPLY such in the title, "The torch has passed, Sony and Canon are dominating the gear used by pros at Tokyo Olympics" Many believe that if the pros use a particular brand, then anything else is inferior. I'm not saying this is statement has a ring of truth, only that is the perception of some. To say any different implies you did not clearly read the title.

Now, Nikon is NOT a inferior, dying brand! The entire end game of photography is the presentation of the resulting photograph, which might be accomplished with a pin hole camera or large format 8x10. Whether based on published specifications or the display of actual photographs, I will pit my Nikon D850 and stable of professional lenses against any brand. Imagine, I don't own a single white lens. It is not the camera that creates winning photography (as already stated ad infimum).

What does determine what a person chooses to use? Features, prior camera systems, marketing ploys (don't you love those cute white lenses), availability of equipment in your area, a job requirement (AP using Sony) peer pressure, personal preferences, and cost factors. Also, no matter what camera you use, (unless you are shooting JPEG), your skill using a quality processing software (PS, LR, etc.) will determine the end product ... the photograph.

Finally, a person who speaks or behaves as if those around him are less important than or inferior to himself might be called supercilious. But then again, with my low IQ I'm not sure what that means.

Please understand that all I said was in jest. I do apologize if I offended you or anyone else. I just wanted to troll, or make fun, a little bit as others were doing.

For what it's worth I like Nikon a hell of a lot more than Canon. I almost joined Team Nikon years ago but chose Sony. It was close. I have no regrets and I'm sure I'd have no regrets now if I'd chosen Nikon, although before the Z7ii came out I would have.

Sigh! It is I who apologize. I have admittedly become too sensitive to negative comments that do little to address the issue being discussed. I only recently realized that behavior I object to even had a name ... trolling or troll. To me a troll is a smelly big ugly guy that carries a club and eats people he catches.

I do not object to many who do not agree with me, it is their right, I object to how they present themselves. We can agree to disagree and still be civil about it. Also, I am always willing to learn providing someone is willing to teach me.

And finally, Canon, Sony, Olympus or Nikon, I am not interested at this immediate moment in switching to mirrorless. I enjoy my DSLR bodies and real men like carrying large and heavy equipment (just kidding). Besides, I am spending my money in other areas. I have recently taken an interest in Astrophotography. After recently purchasing a star tracker, I'm budgeting for accessories related to that.

No need to apologize, but thank you. Yes, some members get needlessly nasty.

I too bought a star tracker but have yet to use it. Soon I will, I hope. I enjoy astro but am frustrated by the limitations we have without a tracker. For now I stack multiple shots and I take dark frames to remove noise, and I get pretty good results without a tracker -- but again, there are limits.

I read somewhere that in 2020, the top three in ww sales were:

Canon abt 45 pct
Sony abt 20 pct
Nikon abt 19 pct

These results speak volumes.

And this is of interest because?

Probably because it is as interesting as much of the other junk posted here. I use Sony, but not because of any thing other than I like the way it works for ME. I don't wear Nike shoes because MJ does. I wear New Balance because I do.

The numbers are meaningless. You should know that stats can be manipulated to support virtually any position. Yours are as I said meaningless without context. Are these percentages in a small camera shop in Peoria? Are they USA sales? Japan sales? Worldwide? By whose accounting? Numbers without qualification are irrelevant.

I completely agree that stats can mislead. If 100 cameras are sold, and 45 are sold by Manuf A, 20 by manuf B, and 19 sold by manuf C, I fail to see were that is misleading.

I have yet to use mine as well. I am recovering from surgery and cannot travel. Since I live about 40 mins north of Houston, Texas, to say I experience light pollution is an understatement. There are filters that will help block the light, but nothing is as good as driving to a dark area.

If you are a member of KelbyOne, they have a good beginner's class that will give tips on overcoming light pollution. Here's the link: https://members.kelbyone.com/course/erik-kuna-astrophotography-for-beginners/

A recent study found that 68% of the statistics on 37% of the discussion boards are 84% made up.

However, 'ww' means world-wide in the context of the earlier post, and those statistics are accurate and have are readily available and widely known since the industry acknowledgement that Sony is now #2. Why do you think every time another messenger points to Nikon's #3 position, the arrows fly for weeks from those who don't want to hear that message.

Note the important math in those numbers: Canon's position in the market remains bigger than both Sony and Nikon combined.

They are misleading if 18 of Sony's 20 percent is because the camera is furnished by Associated Press, most likely because AP cut a lucrative deal by purchasing in volume. Then again, one can always say out of 100 cars/cameras sold, 45 are Chevy/Canon, 20 are Telsa/Sony and 19 are Corvette/Nikon. Just saying ... LOL

But, if you are correct about the recent study, then then figure can't be trusted.
