hi team -I traded up and purchased from MBP a Z6 and its grading was excellent category - unfortunately it has a small scratch from obviously being knocked just under monitor-it is probably cosmetic but it does bother me - waiting for XQD card to be delivered before testing -should I reject the camera body and ask for replacement - MPB have been advised and they have offered to make an allowance - not sure if I am being to fussy
any thoughts or advice
If it bothers you, get it replaced. You will see it every time you use the camera.
Well used cameras have lotsa dings.
Mine probably has a couple, I don't enter it in beauty contests.
I just use it.
Kinda like a car, but you don't have to worry about getting that first ding.
If it's on a black section of the body, a sharpie...

That's not the point. The point being they said it was in excellent shapie according to the op standard of excellent shape this camera did not meet those standards.
i wold send it back

I suppose another point might be how picky one is regarding the definition of excellent.

Without a picture, small scratch doesn't mean much.
According to their rating system Excellent is not the top rating.
Like New is a higher rating.
Only the OP can decide whether or not to keep it.

I buy used gear to save money. MBP rates items as "excellent" if they have "no
significant scuffs, marks or scratches" (emphasis added). Unless the item is listed as "like new" minor cosmetic damage comes with the territory (and the savings). So without a picture it's hard to say the item was not accurately described by MBP.
If the allowance they're offering is reasonable, I'd take the money and run.
But you do have a "no questions asked" return period if you want to go the other way.

Technically, it appears that it meets their specs. It is a piece of used gear and it is not expected to be PERFECT. If you wanted it to be PERFECT or LIKE NEW, you should have spent the extra money to receive that level of perfection.
I do not expect perfection in anything I purchase, whether it is goods from a store or food in a restaurant, it was built or prepared by imperfect people, just like me. To expect perfection means you will always be disappointed with what you get in life. I was a manufacturing engineer in an electronics manufacturing plant and few if any items were perfect in all ways. All items left our plant met their specs, but that does not mean they were perfect in all respects.
But, you are the final judge. If that small scratch bothers you and will continue to make you unhappy with the purchase then by all means return it. But remember, the unit you get to replace it (even if new) may have problems that you cannot see.
Perfection is the enemy of good enough and the pursuit of perfection is endless and heartbreaking. At some point, you draw the line and take what you got.

I used to make and sell furniture. I have found out that many people wanted a product that was top quality, the kind you would find in a fine furniture store, but also wanted WalMart prices. If you are buying used, you should not expect new.
If it were me I would only buy used from a trusted friend or buy new. Was the camera dropped? What else?
Bill
It sounds like it will bother you every time you see it. I would return it no question asked. But I would only purchase like new from now on.
ron james I only purchase my cameras refurbished from Nikon USA...
No problems...
