I live near the beach and often take photos of the surfers. I am interested to know how to take good surf photos. I really like the thoughts of a champion surfer. I was struggling to figure how to make my shots unique. Could you tell me the camera settings of your surf pictures?
I'd be happy to share my settings with you. I shoot with a Canon 6D with a 100-400mm L II lens from the pier in Huntington Beach. I can shoot either north or south depending upon the light. The general setting mid day is this:
shutter speed: 1000th of a sec
F stop: 4.5
ISO: 200
It's all hand held and I shoot in what I call "machine gun mode"........multiple shots per second. You have to anticipate the actions of the surfer and that may take years of shooting them. I've been surfing most all of my life so I have this pretty much wired down.

Nice set Brent. Although I like your surfer photos I was most intrigued by the photographers at the beach.
Repetitive visual experiences attract my attention. That shot of the photographers immediately had me at once!

Love the action that you capture. Really nice set! (As usual)
Thank you very much fjdarling. I'm glad you liked the photos. Cropping the surfers in tight is a good way to make the photos better in my opinion. You can play with the composition more.
