I checked on the condition of the preserved Yellow Jacket and to freshen the alcohol it is stored in. While I had it out I staged it for a focus stacking session as I most often do as part of the maintenance routine of the specimens.

Thanks, for the feedback.
That you can preserve them to this extent is just one more amazing thing about your skill set.

Thanks, Quixdraw. This was one of last summer's finds and it appears to be holding up well.
Nice shot Sippy, Yellowjackets and I have an understanding: They will sting me when ever they have a chance and I will kill them whenever I have a chance

Curmudgeon, the Yellow Jackets are one of the most tense specimens that I collect. It comes down to me, my pill bottle and it. I get them when they are on the ground by putting the pill bottle over them. I tap the end to get them to travel up in it and as they do I raise the bottle high enough to get the lid under it.
If they dart down and try to get out as I am trying to slide the lid on is where it gets exciting for both of us for one will win and one will lose. It's only a draw if it gets out and flies away without being highly pissed at me of they can fly faster than I can run.
I don't collect honey bees although I do find them expired at times and their wings look to be quite ragged so I think that they actually work themselves to death or starve when pickings are lean. Paper wasps are the real terrorists here and I knock them down with soapy water. Strangely, I can be among them in the field the day long and they don't bother me however at home they sneak attack me....bastards!
Superb, sippy. Like me, he needs a shave.

Thanks, Kpmac. I am much the same. I shave my head and were a white haired Van Dike style facial hair....much like Col. Sanders with a less grand mustache. I find it strange how I have the same amount of hair as I did in my younger days except it is mostly in different locations now.
I really liked the perspective on this one, Gary!
