Turn up your ISO to get shutter at least 1/60, 1 /250 better with wiggelers.

Spot meter on face.

Make sure your VR/IS/OR is on if your lens has it.

She is a cutie and deserves to be sharp.

I am sorry you didn't like the effect. These were intentionally soft, defocused and dark to add softness and capture a soft dream like state.

Well you achieved the technical effect. But for me not the result you wanted. Look to me like poorly executed.

I liked them. Any documentation of a Child's life is worthwhile.

I used Nikon D850, Nikon AF DC-105 mm that allows you to defocus and create different focal planes in front or behind the subject. These were taken at ISO 125 to achieve the darkness, f/2.2, with a r f/2.8 setting to achieve the softness. Shutter speed of 1/160. I used single point focus on the closest eye where available to allow the rest of the face to soften. My thought was to create a bit of Alice in Wonderland. Her mother was well versed in what we were doing.

My experience with my granddaughter is getting them to stand still or slow down long enough to get a photo.... at ANY shutter speed.
