We are attending a wedding in Washington, DC at the end of July, and plan to stay a few more days (Aug 1-5) for a short vacation. Looking for ideas as to how to spend the time……Thanks for any ideas. Jess
Everybody knows about "Google and/or Trip Advisor." What people (like this OP) are asking for is personal advice and recommendations based on their personal experiences. Anything wrong with that?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sorry my comment pissed you off.
We were there a year ago and the Zoo was disappointing. Most of the exhibits were closed. The fence around the White House was unbelievably large and could not get close. The Scottish Rite Supreme Council is a good visit.

The White House fence has been removed and Penn. Ave. is once again open to pedestrians. I would assume the Zoo is also reopening but don't don't know for sure.
Some friends suggested Luray Caverns and Monticello. Both are day trips that would require renting a car. If you could do only one, which one would you do, or would you not bother with either? Thanks.
