I have been waiting for delivery on a Cannon RF 100-500 lens. It’s currently listed as “back order” on all the reputable sites. I’m wondering if anyone has recently obtained one or any other Cannon lens that was on back order and how long the wait was. I recently switched to a Cannon R5 and am anxiously awaiting this lens. Thanks..
Ive been notified that all that money I invested was in Canon not Cannon. Thanks for the heads up and excuse my spelling.
They're making everything as fast as they can.

Chip shortage, so bad that Nikon is delivering new cameras without a battery charger - use your old one or find a third party charger that will work. If you can find those.
Cameras , lenses, flashes, batteries and chargers among other things all have chips.
Same with new cars, no chips, no cars so the price of good used ones is going up like a rocket - 30% over last year according to one automotive site. And my wife wants another car - at 66 she is starting to have problems getting into her low riding Honda Civic. She takes my SUV a lot of the time. If something happens and I need to go somewhere I might have to call the paramedics to get me in and out of her Civic. I'm 75 but discovered the joys of a high vehicle with big doors when I got an Astro Van in 89.

Try Canon USA, they may have the lens in stock.

I found a camera store mentioned on UHH as a reliable alternative to the large camera outlets (B&H, Adorama, etc.) that no doubt had long waiting lists. Their web site made it look like they had the 100-500mm in stock, so I "purchased" it, only to be told they actually didn't have it but expected some "soon", but as it turns out, they did not receive any during the next few weeks
Then I read on DPReview that several people had found the 100-500mm at smaller/mid-size camera outlets. Several stores were mentioned. I then went to Canon USA website to look for authorized Canon stores in major cities not including NYC. I made a list of all of these, then went to each web site and put myself on all of their waiting lists. I even called a few, and was told that they tend to get a small allotment from Canon every few weeks. Some advised that preordering puts one higher up on the waiting list compared to those who plan to purchase when the lens becomes available. Ultimately I was able to purchase the 100-500mm within 3-4 weeks.
Here's the thread on DPReview:

Contact Cannon. I'm sure they will "shoot" you an answer!
I had been waiting at least four months for the RF 800 and just received my lens from B&H...well worth the wait.

Very true. They did intentionally put themselves in that position and from a business sense, large demand leads to large profits. Between lenses and bodies they are really pumping out product. It's always better to have demand rather than have inventory sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
One can always argue the price/quality value as with any camera but Canon seems to be taking major positive steps with their gear. Not so much fun when your waiting but it's life in the fast lane. :)
There was a time I thought they were going to be too late to the mirrorless world. Was I wrong! I'm glad I waited.
I have been waiting for that lens from B&H for over 1.5 months. Contacted them and was told I am midway on their list. Expect some delivery in July but that I probably will get it in mid to late August.

Not true. The cameras involved used to come with 2 chargers. Now they come with one.
The one they come with has been Nikon's standard charger for many of their cameras for many years.

I see you're from San Diego. Have you tried Nelson's or George's?
Just received a status update today regarding my 4/12 order of a 600 f4 III.
No change.

A lot of Canon USA's products are waiting on big ships to come into the port of Los Angeles. There is a line of ships waiting to dock and unload. The COVID-19 Thing infected many longshoremen and other dock, truck, and train workers in Long Beach / San Pedro, CA. Transportation and goods headed to the entire nation. I was able to get Canon Ink faster from B&H than Canon. I placed an order to each for Black ink for my Pixma pro-100. B&H had it in stock, Canon had it on back order for 8 or more weeks.
