Hi Hoggers! I take ID photos for Colorado Parks and Wildlife and I really need the reach of the SX60 to ID raptor nests and # of chicks. My SX60 got caught in a snow/dust storm (yes, both at the same time :-( ), and it will no longer focus at all. Does anyone out there have an SX60 in good condition that they're ready to sell? Thank you!

I have one I have been thinking of selling. I haven't used it much since I was using a Nikon and now an Olympus.

Had one that acted similar, lens would not move at times. Lots of cleaning barrel with lens wipes eventually seemed to remove whatever grit was in there. Maybe a can of dry, clean air might help. Have the camera for similar reason, photographing animals and plants at varying distance.

You might also consider the Canon SX50 - prior model. After the SX60 came out quite a few folks said their SX50 was the better camera.

Yes, the SX50 is the best of that series….I have two of them. A great little camera. The Canon SX70 is currently the latest of the SX series but on back order everywhere. I have had one on order for a couple months. One of the Hoggers here may have a 50 or a 60 for sale.

If you are considering a SX70, beware that it does not have a hot shoe so no flash other than its pop-up. I had planned to buy one until I learned this.

I owned both the SX50 and SX60 and now a G3x in addition to 4 other Canon compacts. I've never had a single situation that required an external flash. It really comes down to individual needs, but to your point, the lack of a hot foot did dissuade some potential buyers.
Back to the SX50 and SX60, here's a comparison between the two. I personally couldn't tell much of a difference between images taken from one to another. In all other respects, the SX60 is the better camera, IMHO. Here's a comparison.

The lack of a hot shoe is important to many as lack of it precludes the use of such remote release units as the Vello wieless release which mounts on the hot shoe of many cameras including the SX50 and SX60. The long range (about 100 yards I think) of the Vello wireless unit is extremely useful in taking pictures of wildlife, especially birds at a feeder, etc. I can set my camera up close to a feeder located on the far side of my back yard and sit inside my house taking pictures of the birds, and especially the hummers, that visit the feeders without alarming them in the least. The wireless release also relieves the photographer at a family gathering of having to dash back and forth re-setting the camera when taking family group pictures.

I had the SX40 also, until it fell out of my camera case onto a concrete floor. UGH! Then I got the 60 and LOVE it!

I've heard that, too, buit the extra mm on the sx60 is what I need. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Howdy - I finally got the lens to move smoothly, but the focusing mechanism is still not working. It will not focus on auto-focus or manual. I think it's a goner I went to a couple of forums online and tried a number of resets, even doing a factory reset. Nothing works. Thanks for the suggestion.
