At 1:49 AM I received an email from Adorama….available for pre-order now…the Nikon Z fc, a retro DX mirrorless, 20.9 MP DX CMOS sensor, flip-out vari-angle screen, eye detection autofocus for humans and animals, and EXPEED 6 processing engine.

Body Only: $956.95
w/Z 28 mm f/2.8 Lens: $1196.95
w/Z DX 16-50 Lens: $1096.95

I believe they will be able to sell a few of these…I may be tempted.

That's a nice-looking camera at a decent price. I can't imagine them selling many other than black, though, especially for $100 more.

My Df is silver and I love the look.

Jerry meant the color of the leatherette. There is no choice of chrome or black with the Zfc.

I know that Nikon will come to this and I won't be buying new Nikon.

I have the Df. Although I don't care for the DX cropped factor I'm giving the Z fc serious consideration.

The accompanying 16-50 f3.5 to 6.3 is a no go. What would I do in a museum with that lens at 6.3?? I always try to stay at the native ISO, seldom if ever I go beyond 400. Most likely I'll get a couple of those third party manual focusing lenses, a 35mm and a 50 or 55mm at f1.8 to f2.8 They are compact, perfect for this new camera.

I've been waiting for Nikon to bring a Df replacement, but FF and mirrorless. This DX might do until they bring the FF one.

I just looked at this camera on the NikonUSA website. It's clear from what we see there that Nikon does not care what anyone here thinks about this camera...it is not intended for us, and it is not being marketed to us. It is pretty obvious that the primary intended market is young women, not cranky old men. I suspect that will be more and more the case with products not only from Nikon but eventually from the other manufacturers. It looks like Nikon has perhaps learned an important lesson...if you are not in the pharmaceutical business, you can't build a business model in today's world by targeting cranky old men.

I think that there is a good chance that this could be a very successful product for Nikon, even if not a single person here ends up buying one. The style of the camera and of the lenses is very much something that modern folks could get interested in. Never mind whether it is technically competent or not (although it does appear to be so)...that is entirely not the point with it.

So my suggestion is to show it to your daughters and granddaughters. See what they say. And encourage them. Don't throw cold water on their response. You've got your mirrorless cameras that are here to save the world already. This doesn't have to be for you.

When Nikon introduced the Z mount they decided not to have the aperture ring on the lens and thus their cameras always have to have the PSAM.

I was hoping it would be a full frame camera like the Df. I would have considered it.

I love my Df, I believe they will have a new Df replacement, the Z-fc is just a test for the market for the moment! I will start to save some money for the new Df, will see!

My thoughts, exactly. Of course, a full frame Z fc would cost a bit more. Maybe I'll hold out for a full frame.

There won't be a new Df replacement I can be sure of that.
