Very nice images. Actually, more than nice, they are beautiful!

From the title and the fact that you posted in the discussion section instead of the Photo Gallery, I thought you were going to show us a comparison between 12 and 14 bit.

Thank You Bill
I don't waste a landscape image with 12 bit as we had to travel a hundred miles to get just 5 images and had only minutes to set up tripods ,remote triggers ,pano head ,nodal rail ,I learned my lesson from experiance of others like Thom Hogan the Guru on nikons . He has multiple books on 14 bit shooting and why , I saw , and I Do and accept the concept I don't shoot 12 bit unless by mistake . I did this to help people learn from what I experienced sometimes it is best to show what you can accomplish if done a certain way without a 27 page disscussion and sometimes arguments of the virtues of a workflow . I work on Images not My own for clients almost every day and print them on mostly large canvases in my studio . They all want big gallery wrap canvases from small images I have most of them under exposing so i can recover their images in the shortest amount of time I have been doing this for twelve years for others and myself so I know what's best for Me . Here in florida we have a high hot sun when shooting White Egrets , Ospreys the chances of blowing out the highlights are high without a fudge factor . I have more examples in that respect but I just shots these and the discussion of last week was fresh on my mind . These will be printed this week 32" x 48" and put in a Gallery by this weekend with other local artists and some of mine . There is a very tiny bit of noise in recovered shadows in the log on the water that I missed but not bad for not using any noise reduction in camera or in post other than a little bit of the luminance slider in ACR . Pretty good testament to the developers @ Nikon on this cameras capabilities shooting base ISO and extended Dynamics range without the penalties of noise . And yes I do Mess up more often than I like but not today .

I always use 14 bit RAW. Why not if it's available? Unless you just want smaller files and don't mind losing some dynamic and color range.

I don't disagree. I always use 14 bit. It was just the title of the thread made me think there was going to be a comparison.

Keep up the good work.

Oh I do understand I just thought the earlier discussion started here and thought it was important enough to post an example from my experience and struggle with noise sort of a picture is worth a thousand words . Before with my d7100 I had to use every little edge I could get to battle noise in My landscapes and used HDRI to get the dynamic range I needed and sometimes stitch more bracket sets to create larger images .I also only had a 20mm f2.8 Nikkor and a 18-55 kit lens on the d7100 . So when I read about using 14 bit over 12 it seemed to help a lot . I did this for years but wanted more . A few years later I was playing Santa Claus and Made enough to buy a refurbished D810 from Nikon USA on a year end sale . I continued to use 14 bit and wanted a real wide angle fast quality lens so the next year I played Santa Claus again and bought a refurbished AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm F2.8G ED and was off and running with my Landscapes . Everything fell into place and I have been using 14 all the way . I made a mistake and sold my D7100 . And using a 300mm F4 prime lost my reach on my d810 . The next year Santa Claus bought me a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR .I got my reach back and then some . Although I still use 14 bit it does slow your frame rate down I can live with that . I got a d500 to get 750 mm of reach and am fighting noise again in low light shooting and pushing high ISO at low light on the D 500 . It does not have the capabilities of the d810 . Also I purchased a AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III to use on the D810 before I purchased the D500 not happy I returned it . So here I am today Maybe sell the D500 and Get the Z7 so I am looking To Play Santa again this year . Still shooting in 14bit .
