In the film days they were the standard. Today in digital the output can short the camera system from the voltage.

They're still usable with a Wein Flash Sync or optical with slaves--same brand peanut optical, or radio triggers and slaves, for off camera use. Cheapest light after a window!

The Vivitar 285 HV was made for digital cameras, I have several of them since I buy them whe I find them cheap and give them to my studens. I also have several Metz 60CT and Since you cannot find the batteries for them any more I am looking for a solution.
