Anyone have experience with a Epson 7100 printer. Saw it in Office Depot & it looks for what I need. Photo printing mainly. I have an HP8550 which is giving me alot of trouble especially with the ink cartridges. Don't know how much longer it will last plus HP doesn't back them up anymore since it's an old printer. Any opinions would help. Thank you in advance. Michael.

My experience with Epson was every one I own clogged up and I had throw it away. That said many swear by it. That model is relatively cheap but only has 5 cartridges and can only print up to 8x10 so unless you really need a multifunction ink jet printer you be better of looking at the XP 970 at $100 more with six colors and able to print up to 11x17. Remember all Epson printers will only work with Epson ink. They are probably workarounds but.
Or better yet look Canon. If they still made the Pro 100 and it was discontinued like it used to be it is often the printer most recommended in UHH. Unfortunately, the replacement which is probably better , the Pro 200, doesn’t have the same discounts so is 3 times the cost.

I have that printer and it is the worst one I have ever owned. I don't use it to print pictures, but when it comes to printing documents it is awful. As Ednsb said, it clogs and smears the ink. Most documents I print come out with globs or streaks of ink across the page. I've cleaned the heads and replaced not-yet-empty ink cartridges and that hasn't helped. Epson's tech support is useless.

I bought the Epson ET-2760 ink tank all-in-one a little over a year ago from Amazon for $199. I love it! It's now $349! An audio recorder I just posted about has also taken a big jump in price in less than a year. I don't know about you, but I prefer lower prices.

Have used many printers in my lifetime and my XP-7100 is the best I have had for photos.

I have it and love it!
I usually print directly from 'create' in PSE18 and I use only Epson inks and highest quality Epson photo paper. It resizes where necessary and the color calibration is good. (I have Asus laptop and Windows 10)
Yes, it's frustrating when I have to redo prints due to necessary head cleaning. Otherwise, it's fine.
However, when it dies, I do intend to upgrade to a higher end Epson.
Meanwhile, this one is fine!

Just as a P.S. to my earlier comment: After posting I printed out 4 copies of a two-page document, printing two-sided. Three of the four copies had black smudges on them. I then printed 3 additional copies. The first two printed on both sides but on the third one it came out as two one-sided sheets. On my third try I finally got what I wanted.

My intent has been to use up my ink supply and take a sledge hammer to it. After hearing me curse it this morning, my wife has convinced me to use that sledge hammer now and just get a new one. It won't be an Epson.

In my earlier post I mentioned that Epson's tech support is useless. I first contacted them about problems with this printer while it was under warranty. They were insistent that it was a software problem, not a hardware problem. Even so, they couldn't solve it. When I asked to return the printer and get a refund, I was told that I couldn't do that because there was nothing wrong with the printer and they would solve the software problem. I will admit that after several calls, and many hours spent with a tech person, I gave up.

Other hoggers seem to like this printer. I'm happy for them, but my experience has been quite different and I can't recommend it.

None of the printers mentioned above is really a printer designed for photos, except the Canon Pro 100, now replaced by the Pro 200. In the Epson line, there is the P series, which is designed specifically for printing photos. My P800 has served me for quite a while and works well producing superior photos. If you really want to print photos you need to purchase a printer made for that purpose. If you are unwilling too spend the money, getting prints from an outside source may be a better idea. Best of luck.

Just replaced my HP all in one printer for an EpsonHD XP15000 photo printer. Haven't printed very many pictures with it yet , but it outshines the HP 100% IMHO.
Got it on sale at Adorama for $300.00.

I was reading your post about the Pro 100 and became curious. Found several on eBay. I also found the Pro 200 for $600 and the Pro 300 for about $900. I'm looking to print some slides from my time in the USCG in Alaska and recently bought a digitizer and am now looking for a great printer. Is the Pro 200 better than the 100 or just more advertising?

If you can get a good price on 100 grab it. It used to see under $200 with a Canon discount at the end of 2020. If the price is close to the 200 my friends that one both prefer the 200 for a few new features. The biggest limitation of both is the maximum size is only 13 inches and only sheet paper no rolls.

The guy touting the epson all in one with six colors versus an HP Office mfp with three made me laugh.

If you are going to print images you should first know what your goal is. How big of prints, how good they need to be for your goal and can you justify the cost? And 8x10 on the pro 100 including paper will cost you about $4 each. An 8x10 at Costco is $1.50 and if you don’t like it for any reason you can get your money back. If you calibrate your monitor and soft proof using the Fuji ICC printer and paper profiles you can get excellent results for both glossy and lustre paper. I wish they still had in store services but the online works too with free shipping in about 3 days rather than 1 hour in store.

I had a problems with a HP printer so I tried Epson 3700 which is a print, copy, scan and fax printer. I do a lot of scanning for my HOA and the scanning has caused me numerous intermittent problems where it did not recognize the wire connected to the printer. This would go on for a few days and would then work again. I then got a message that the printer needed ink so I got replacements and changed them. The printer then gave me an error message about the scanner. It is locked up and just will not work.

I tried contacting Epson support but when I call during the hours that there support website said to call I get a message stating that they are closed during the said hours and to please call or contact them from their website. so I went to their website and tried to contact them from there. This was a little over a week ago and they still haven't gotten back to me.

I know that this Epson Printer is not the one that you reference but I mention this incident to make you aware that I don't have much faith or respect for their service.

I had and used an HP 7183 for a lot of years. Some friends needed copies of grandparents photo and asked me to try to make copies. At the time I had the new Nikon D200 and just had acquired a new 17-55 lens so I was happy to see what the camera and lens could do.

I took maybe 15 photos of their photo until I got to be that I liked. I printed one photo on the HP 7183 and took it with the original to the lady who owned the original and she said she couldn't tell the difference. I could, but she was happy and asked for 10 of them. I printed them on HP photo paper and they were very happy. This was in June 2005, and the camera along with 4 of my 2.8 lenses were stolen along with most of my memory cards.

I have relied upon Costco for printed photos since my HP 7183 went to the scrap heap.

I have had one xp7100 for 2-3 years and am very happy with it. Couple times had to clean print heads and once had to unplug it to clear up a problem which was probably caused by me. I love the fact that the photo paper carriage is built in. I would buy it again.
