How could the pandemic cause crime? Did the virus attack our brains? Did the virus makes guns jump into the hands of gang members? If Covid is the cause of the crime rate going up why hasn't it decreased now that Covid infections are going down?
Biden indicated that because the kids are out of school for the summer they get bored and go out and kill people. Good God.....is he saying boredom creates killers? Or is he saying warm air turns these usually docile young men into looters and killers? No! You have to first be a thief or killer then you will use any excuse in the world to practice your addiction!
There is one common denominator here.......Fewer police and more restrictions on the police that are still working.
Biden doesn't have the B-lls to thump his nose at the far left nut cases that want to do away with the police. He has to come up with the bizarre reasons that dismiss the real reasons for the increase in crime. I find his "rational" to be an insult to my intelligence.

I do not disagree that other arrangements for punitive action toward SOME criminals could be looked into.
But where did this come from? Why bring in something from Left field. Your post says nothing, has no relativity to what I said which was that jails and prisons are releasing criminals which our police officers, those few we still have, will have to deal with after the victims of their acts deal with them first.
You want a discussion on criminals and jail/prison time I am happy to oblige. But please start a thread for that specific subject. Your post makes no sense at all here.

I'm trying to imagine why intelligent people wouldn't agree with all the factors working together to produce more crime. I believe it has long been established that crime does increase in the summer. I believe it has also been agreed upon that the pandemic lockdowns have produced a higher stress quotient for many people, and many don't have the fortitude to handle this stress in a socially appropriate manner.
On the other hand, I can't imagine why intelligent people would ignore the obvious increase in crime while the country is under the defund the police political movement.
All factors are in play at once. Since reality is a layered and nuanced effect, both sides can be right at once, but neither side can be right exclusively.
