Went searching early this morning to find the Scorpion Fly. Found 2 females but no males. The Hover Bee has strange markings on the body.

That scorpion fly looks like something nightmares are made from! It is one ugly creature. Fine shots though!

I agree with Mike Bridges; beauty did not cross my mind when viewing the Scorpion Fly. Well done on all the captures; especially when viewing the downloads.
I had never seen nor even heard of a scorpion fly until seeing your excellent photographs. Well done as are the other photos.

Great series, never seen a scorpion fly. It is a very good image!
Absolutely fantastic in every way..!
Very nice series - the head shot is excellent. FYI, Scorpionflies, while they are insects with a pupal stage, like Beetles, Flies, Butterflies, they are only distantly related to the Flies. Makes it easier to keep track of this by combining the name of 'non-fly flies', as in Damselfly, Mothfly, Butterfly, etc., while Horse Flies, Flower Flies, and Bee Flies really are 'true Flies'. Indeed, many don't know or ignore this, but it's handy in understanding the subjects characteristics.
Excellent work!
I recall that relbugman pointed out a while ago true flies are given a two-part name (as in horse fly), but other insects are given one-part names (as in butterfly).
Thank you all for your comments and knowledge. Much appreciated. I will now hunt for the male Scorpionfly and may get lucky photographing the mating process.
These are beautiful scorpionfly images, well done for finding them.
