It's a shame that we can't discuss many topics here now without them being moved to The Attic. I've probably started posting a dozen topics, only to stop midway because I realized they could cause fights. Having different opinions is fine, but when it gets to the point that we automatically blame the other political party for any problems and start calling each other names, it's no fun anymore.
Thanks to social media, which has had a more corrosive effect on western civilization than anything before, people end op seeing only things with which they already agree (that's how the algorithms are set up) which convinces them more thoroughly they are right and everyone who disagrees is wrong.
A very interesting movie on Netflix which clearly explains what happens "behind the screen" is "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix - it may make you want to drop off FB et al.

And people come out of the woodwork to voice their "opinion".
Facebook is its own kind of pandemic!
If you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything?

Yes, there are some really nasty people out there!
I donβt belong to Facebook, instachat, tick tick or any of those. I donβt even belong to LinkedIn. Ugly Hedgehog and Badger & Blade are my social media.

I've always loved a good, intelligent, fact based (to the best of mere mortals ability) lively, respectful debate on almost any subject, anytime....sadly the art of "debating" has fallen victim to the "rant", hate projection, "trollism", "my way or the highway" philosophy, the inability of some to separate intelligent discussion from the "I'm always right, you're always wrong" purely divisive, and often completely baseless spread of falsehoods and inaccurate information.
Have always felt that even when interacting with others from behind the keyboard, one should offer the same respect and engagement they would when speaking to another in person, even if or as polar opposites. I know I have walked away from conversations here because it became clear that the intent was to disrespect, build hate snowballs, project harmful statements for some purpose other than the point of the discussion.
If one cannot provide some form of fact based/historical based informational data and/or linkages to information on a subject, then it should be addressed as "opinion" or "point of view", and even those are or should be allowed, as long as the verbal abuse is left out of the conversation.
Peace.

"Social Media" is anything BUT "social". When it comes to participating in "Social Media", I adopted the tactic of "Social Distancing" long before the term "Social Distancing" became "cool". Life is great without joining in that foodfight.
