Clarification, I meant that it would be like a rear view mirror, would probably be good if towing a trailer that blocked the view in your mirror, just move the camera. with that thought I've seen cameras meant to be mounted on the exterior of cars/ trucks for rear view being sold, probably better in the long run than adapting a dash cam.

Right. I have a small license-plate-frame camera that I've never used because I don't want to add a monitor to the dashboard. I don't pull trailers much anymore, but when I was pulling them, a rear camera would have been great.
