I want to advise you that I have been a NIKON guy since the D50 days, and have had very good service and I love my NIKON gear. BUT REALLY: While speaking with a Tech support specialist I asked for a rough estimate on replacing the shutter on my D-5 as it is now over 150,000 actuations. He said He could NOT give me an estimate. The next question was how much does it cost to convert my D-5 from CF cards to CF Express cards. The top one has my answer to his email and his email which should be 1st is actually second. The picture is of a CF & CFExpress card side by side, See the attachments and laugh your A$$ off. But seriously; how will NIKON survive with people like these???

If you sought a quote to replace a shutter before it fails, something that may never fail as well as estimated to a minimum of 400,000, do you think that reflects well on you?

If you post an image of something we should be able to read the details / text, but you don't store the file, do you think that reflects well on you?

If you wanted the technical design of the camera to be redesigned via a repair, do you think that reflects well on you?

What did you think would be accomplished by this post? Did you think it would reflect well on you?

I think this was a simple typo. If your D5 has an XQD card, the firmware update will allow you to use the CFe card in its place. If your D5 has a CF card, Nikon will need to swap out the card module. The tech simply got the two reversed. Chalk it up to human error.

It wasn't a typo - I only shared because of the new guy at the support center not following up and finding out what the difference is. I kinda got a hoot out of the response that the supervisor didn't know the difference between a CF and a CFExpress card either. I figured it was indicative of the issues and the staff cutbacks that NIKON has made and others have discussed. It in NO way indicates that I am willing to choose another brand of camera. After all, if we can't laugh at our brand and the errors they make along with our own errors - What is the answer To humor - maybe we have all lost it because of the 15 month lockup.

Agree. Obviously a typo. If you swap CF and XQD in the fourth paragraph, Nikon’s response makes perfect sense.

I have only one question. The D5 shutter will last at least 400,000.
It's like you want to change the engine in your car that only has 15,000 miles on it. Why do you want a shutter replacement?

I'm laughing at someone, but not the Tech Support agent. The fact that he followed thru and emailed an answer shows he went the extra mile to try to help and made a simple typo. Perhaps after 15 months we have also lost our sense of gratitude!

I have to agree with the OP on this one. I've been a Nikon user since the F5 was released and an NPS member for well over 20 years. For the past few years, I'm finding that the first level tech support folks are fairly clueless. Sometimes I say Thank You and then call back and try my luck once again. I had the shutter and electronic aperture mechanism replaced on my D5 a couple years back and I recall it costing about $ 500 but that was with my NPS discount. Had way more that 150k shots. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Best of luck
