If you like crabs, this is the lazy person's path to enjoyment:

Looks delicious, Gene. Definitely the way to eat crab meat. I tried them in the shell at a place called Cantler’s on a trip down your way. Too much work for the small return.

Good photo, effective presentation. I make them the "evil" way, fried crisp.

Thanks! And I make them Local-Style - no filler, just a little mayo to bind, and very light seasoning, similar to Old Bay - I like JO#1 better - less salt.

Thanks!

They probably didn't serve you She crabs which have the little bonus of crab roe in the spring. I can eat a dozen or so Large crabs - about 8-10 ounces of meat after you finish picking them apart. Nice with a tall Pilsner or two. Helps to take the focus off hammering them.

But I wait until this time for the softshells - I saute them in brown butter, or lightly coat them in buttermilk and flour - and pan fry/deep fry them. The only fried seafood I like better are New England Belly Clams.

Actually, it was a grab shot - and place mat was dirty. Good catch!

My wife and I grew up in Ipswich, MA, a small coastal town north of Boston noted for their clams. There is a small place called the Clam Box (the restaurant actually looks like a clam box) that was there when I was a kid and is still there today. We consider the Clam Box our standard for whole fried clams and travel there to have them every summer.

Been there and couldn't agree more! Are they still in business?

Were headed to the Cape in June for a couple of weeks - haven't been there since we moved to DE. My stomach has been growling "clams, clams, clams" for weeks now. Can't wait!

The Clam Box is still there but the owner passed away. We haven’t been there since summer 2019 so I’m not certain if there have been any changes. Their whole clams were always small and tender. They also stop serving mid-afternoon to change the oil in the fryolators. Makes a big difference. Now I’m thinking about clams. Time for a trip.
