The local camera club to which I belong here in Cumberland Co., IL meets monthly. Each month we have a photo contest based on a theme. Participating members place their 8x10 photos face down in two rows on a long table. Once all the photos are on the table, they're shuffled and turned right-side up. Using Post-it notes, they're each assigned a number (excluding sixes and nines to eliminate inherent confusions). The first part of the meeting is reserved for lessons on learning new and/or better photo techniques, discussing camera settings, overcoming situational problems, helping newer members learn how to use their new cameras, excreta. During the second part of the meeting all members parade around the long table of contest photos, judging in their own minds the one photo that best suits that month's theme, tones, colors, composition, exposure, focus, innovation, etc. On a small piece of paper they write down the number of the photo they've judged to be the "best of the best". The scrap of paper is folded in half and give it to the "tally man". By so doing every member is allowed one secret-ballot vote. The votes are tabulated: the most votes is awarded 1st place, second most votes is second place and so on. Sometimes there are place ties, and that's okay.

This theme for October was "Round Things" -- circular, globular in nature, as the primary objective of the photo. This month's contest yielded an overwhelming vote tally for first place: "Buckeye". Second place went to "Kathy's Marbles". And six photos tied for 3rd place. Posted below are the winning photos for this month's "Round Things" contest.

Next month's (November) photo contest is themed, "A Feeling of Warmth". Photos submitted need to convey "a feeling of warmth"; a subject wide open for interpretation. It should be an interesting contest.

Gizzy invites anyone in this UHH forum to join the "Feeling of Warmth" photo contest: One photo per individual, posted only in this string. Each entry will be copied to an off-site folder, and will be assigned the screen-name of the entrant, along with a sequential number. The third Wednesday of November (16th) the UHH entries will be printed out and presented to Gizzy's camera club for judging. First, second and third place will be awarded and posted back to HHG shortly after November 17th under the topic "Feeling of Warmth" Photo Contest Winners". Good luck and happy clicking.

Congratulations!!

Well... hoops-n-sticks WOULD have won if I hadn't changed my mind at the end there... but I did, and as a result... Buckeye gets the Prize!! ;)
And VERY cool of you to invite us to join in the next competition! I think I might just bite on that one! :)

LOL *blush*
Wow. No pressure now, eh!? *snickers playfully*

I've gotta say, too, that your competitors offered up a nicely diverse selection that was well done, too!
I'd stink as a judge (although the online forum I belong to and also send competing images in, makes it mandatory that those who submit must judge... and not for their own lol)

In fact, I'm waiting with baited breath for the results of that one this very day. Should know soon! I have three entries but feel REALLY good about one in particular!

Dont'cha hate the wait!?

Thanks, Tilde. By the way, you must congratulate Gessman on his being our 1st place winning guest member submitting the "Buckeye" photo (incognito). I submitted the Hoop & Sticks and didn't get one lousy vote! I hate Gessman's gizzards.

Yeppers, you gotta love that Gessman, even if he IS awfully competitive. He'll figure out a way to win one way or the other. He's got me buffaloed AND hog-tied. He's pretty good with Auto Focus, too!

You're pissed? YOU'RE pissed? Jus' plain broken hearted, are ye? You stinkin' back stabber. "Hoops and Sticks" was your first choice and "Buckeye" was mine. How did YOU win with "Buckeye" and I failed to even get one single vote with "Hoops and Sticks?" Next time it'll be Registered Letter, certified by Price-Waterhouse and himself Barrack O'lama, Resident of the Ugly Hedgehog. I've been robbed, ROBBED, I tell you. I don't get no respect around here. Cheated blind, right before my very own back. Damn Yankees, anyway. Never could trust 'em. YOU'RE pissed? As ~ would say, *stamps feet*, *spits*, *curses*, *curses some more*, *falls to ground hammerin' with fists*, *curses damn yankees*, *curses anybody named Whicker everywhere*, *curses Whickers in the old country*, *curses drunken Whickers in New York*, *and Illinois*, *spits again*, *chases wife through house with hatchet* *runs from wife's rollin' pin*, *crawls under dining room table*, *cursing Whickers and Gizzys and spitting*...
