I recently bought a d7000 after long agonizing months of which to buy. I have a couple friends that has one and i was amazed at how fast it is,,,i also have a d40 that ive had for about 6 yrs and love it,,,,,,maybe im not just familiar with the d7000 yet,,but i took some pics of birds in flight and what i thought was in focus,,wasnt so much when i viewed them on my computer,,,,however,,my d40 i took pics with as well,, seemed to focus fast and acurately,,,is there something i may be doing on the 7000 thats not letting it focus as sharply? i am just learning the camera so any help would be appreciated!
I think it is just a learning curve. Nothing more. The d7000 is a very good performer. It also depends on the lens and how fast the focus motor works.

Hey Doc ..... which lens were you using on the D7000 and on the D40
Watch your AF settings. Too many focus points will throw off the AF sensor and result in slightly out of focus shots. Use SPOT or CENTER WEIGHTED focusing for birds in flight.

I shoot with a D40X and have had it over 5 years now & I'm still learning about "the thang. I absolutly love it & not sure if I would trade up yet. Good luck with your D7000 & I'm sure you will get the knack of it soon.
i used the same lens on them both a 55 -200 af,,though ive heard the 70 to 300 lens is a bit faster?? not sure??
ok ill set it one focus point,,, thank you!

Well, that blows that theory! I will defer to Mt Shooters suggestion.
Follow MT shooters suggestion. I too have some sharpness issues with my D-7000, trying to use to many focus points.
